Recently, some news has come out regarding some of the game’s coming to Sony’s upcoming micro console, the PlayStation Classic. Specifically, nine of the games on the system will be the European (PAL) versions of the game.

Two of these nine games are the 3D fighters that help define the original PlayStation: Tekken 3 and Battle Arena Toshinden. With these games being the PAL versions, this means that both games will run at a 50hz refresh rate – slower than the 60hz standard used by NSTC regions.

With refresh rates tied to frame rates, this effectively means that these games will run slower than intended. This is especially bad for the aforementioned fighting games, especially Tekken 3. While Battle Arena Toshinden is more of a curiosity that hasn’t aged as well, Tekken 3 is considered one of the best installments of the series — one whose home version has never been re-released.

The other games affected by this are Cool Boarders 2Destruction DerbyGrand Theft AutoJumping Flash!Oddworld: Abe’s OddyseeResident Evil Director’s Cut, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.

For anyone planning to get the PlayStation Classic, be reminded then that the above games may not play quite like you remember them (unless you’re from a PAL region!).
