Champion of Muay Thai, former Heavenly King of Shadaloo, and series veteran since the original Street Fighter, Sagat has finally come back for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Returning with kara uppercuts, safe-at-range Tiger Knees, angry scar, and a fireball almost rivaling Guile’s Sonic Boom, Sagat feels so much like his old self that he’s almost out of place in SFV. Sagat was released alongside G, who felt extremely experimental by design, so I think the developers were probably trying to adapt and deliver Sagat to be as true to type as possible, especially considering he’s a fan-favorite who was added per mass request. Still, he has some new tools to play around with, namely a Trigger with a guard break. Both Sagat’s triggers are fairly straightforward and his main consideration when considering combos has been “how to convert at range.” So it didn’t take me long to put together this guide of his most essential combo routes, so that players can quickly learn the basics and start developing their neutral game. Here are your best bread-and-butter combos that I’ve found for every common scenario. This video features anti-airs, punishes, confirms, counter-hit combos, crush counter combos, juggles, and more.
This Sagat bread-and-butter video is not the full Sagat tutorial I’m working on, but rather simply a guide to his basic optimal combo routes. The combos are all my own findings, alongside a few things I’ve observed from other players. Sagat is a relatively simple character and I’m pretty sure there weren’t any overt combo routes I missed, but I wholeheartedly encourage anyone watching to point out anything I did miss in the comments, for both my sake and for other players, so that I can amend them into the final video when I release it!
