Team NINJA’s Dead Or Alive 5 has been one of the longest running installments of the storied franchise. While part of that has been through their consistent support of the competitive scene, a large part of it has also been through all the downloadable content that the latest iteration Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round, has received. Now, it seems that Team NINJA may finally be ready to move on from DOA5.
During their Tokyo Game Show livestream, producer Yosuke Hayashi announced that they will finally end DLC support for the game this year. For those who haven’t been following the game, Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round has multiple seasons worth of downloadable content, including 2 guest characters, and over $600 worth of downloadable costumes.
While this model may have been good for the series — the free-to-play Core Fighters version has just surpassed 10 million downloads — it seems that they’re finally ready to move on. Hayashi has stated that the team is looking towards the future. Whether or not this means that they’re moving on to Dead Or Alive 6 is as yet unknown. In the meantime, Team NINJA is currently also working with Square Enix on Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.
