Our first comprehensive look at Street Fighter V’s market performance released recently in the form of Capcom’s financial report, which details sales up until March 31, 2016. The company hoped for Street Fighter V to achieve 2 million individual sales by the end of this period–as you can see in this presentation–but SFV fell short of that goal by more than 500,000 units. In spite of such shortcomings, the game has nevertheless been added to Capcom’s list of Platinum titles and currently sits at number 45 with 1.4 million units sold.

Capcom don’t seem to be particularly concerned at SFV’s failure to hit the sales target at the moment as, according to the report, “Street Fighter V (for PlayStation 4 and PC) remained a perennial favorite and maintained steady sales mainly overseas.” It has already proved more successful in its initial period of sales than some other Capcom fighting games did over their lifetime–among them Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3–and seems to be popular with the competitive community if the record-breaking registration numbers for Evolution 2016 are anything to go by.
