3d-action-fighting-game Final Fantasy Dissidia got a lukewarm reception from hardcore fighting game fans. On one hand, it has great graphics and puts tons of iconic Final Fantasy heroes and villains together to fight it out. On the other hand, many complaints about balance within the game's systems and characters, along with the fact that its on PSP, probably kept it from seeing any competitive love. That isn't a knock on the PSP, either, as we all know how difficult it is for a competitive game to work on a handheld.
Square-Enix isn't finished with this experiment, however. Dissidia Duodecim is coming out next year, and while it looks to use the same engine with more characters (a fighting game tradition!), we have to hope that the complaints about the actual gameplay have been heard and will be addressed in the new version. Kain from FF4, and Lightning from FF13 will be joining the cast of playable characters, and we can assume more will be announced as the game gets closer to release.
