Tatsunoko vs Capcom Coming Stateside… Confirmed!

May 16th, 2009 by Keits in News |

TvC Nintendo Power Scan

Its been a BAD year or so for the word “impossible”.  Street Fighter 4?  Impossible!  Another Capcom VS fighting game?  Impossible-er!  A Japan only release with massive licensing issues coming to the USA on fan demand alone?  Impossible-est!

Dreams really do come true, at least for fighting game enthusiasts.   Scans from Nintendo Power are reporting that TvC is headed stateside.  What does this mean for the competitive community, though?  TvC isn’t doing too well right now in the states as far as tournament entry numbers goes.  Being import only and on the Wii has kept a lot of people from playing it.   On top of that, the lack of online play has kept those that have bothered to obtain it from being able to compete.  Many have said that competitive TvC is already dying or dead.  Could this USA release be the boost it needs?  Or will it be too little too late?  Was it really the fact that its on the Wii that has kept it from the spotlight?

Licensing issues with the characters from the Tatsunoko side of the roster may the leave the domestic version missing certain characters.  Hopefully, Capcom has worked everything out, but there is a chance that if this really is coming here, it might not be the exact same game it was in Japan.  It might be wise to fix the Karas and Roll OTG-state infinites while doing the port, but tournament play hasnt been seeing too many of them yet.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of this title being more accessable?  What other “Impossible” surprises might Capcom, SNK/Ignition, Namco, and other fighting game companies have in store for us at the upcoming E3 trade show?

Edit 5-18-09 – Capcom has gone ahead and confirmed that TvC is coming to the states, but that it is now called “Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All Stars”, instead of the old subtitle “Cross Generation of Heroes”.  Does this confirm that there will be in-game changes?  Its difficult to say, but E3 is right around the corner.

Journal of a old school player getting into SFIV for the first time!

May 15th, 2009 by MrWizard in Community |

Graham Wolfe was one of the premier players in the golden era of video games. Real life took over for him, and has been out of the scene for a few years now.  After attending the Gamestop Nationals up in San Francisco in April, it has sparked his interest in Street Fighter IV. With all the new blood out there, and tons of competition, this is where he wants to be at the moment. He documented his road to getting started so that if people are on the fence about play Street Fighter IV at a higher level, this article is for you.

More after the jump.

Travel Log; The Fight’s About to Begin 4-11-09

May 13th, 2009 by Keits in Community, Features, Musings, Tournaments |

Welcome to what will hopefully be the first in great new feature series about what its like to be a tournament goer.  As big as our community was, is, and will become, the actual percentage of forum members who actually go to tournaments is fairly small.  Hopefully, these posts will give you a glimpse at the idea that going to a tournament can leave you with a lot more than just a stronger set of Street Fighter skills. The series does need a name, though, so leave a suggestion in a comment after you read.  This week’s tournament journal is from community member “DaDesiCanadian”.   The following is an introduction by him;

Hey, my name is Anant, but you probably know me on the Shoryuken forums as DaDesiCanadian. I’m also known by my IRC nickname of Jeeebus. I’m a relatively new member of the SF scene compared to the old school heads.  I started playing around 1999-2000.  It was a good time though, since that’s when the Canadian Street Fighter scene started up. Sadly the game that pulled me in was… Marvel Superheroes vs. Street Fighter. Horrific, I know, but if it makes you feel better, I played the hell out of ST back then also. I’m 23 years old right now which means I started playing when I was around 13. I’ve been traveling to tournaments ever since I started playing. I can remember before we had our drivers licenses, we would take public transportation for 3 or 4 hours to compete in tournaments. Now that was dedication! A lot of people think I’m pretty young even now, but that’s just how the Toronto scene is. We have the old school players, but we’re constantly being swamped by new players discovering the community, even before the release of SF4. I’m probably one of the older players in the scene compared to the average right now.

A big question we get a lot about the Toronto scene is “What the hell is the “GTASF”?”

Well, what people refer to as “Toronto” is actually a group of cities and suburbs that surround the city of Toronto.  We call this the “Greater Toronto Area”. I’m actually from the city of Mississauga.  When the scene first started up, each city used to have it’s own distinct scene; Eventually the lines became blurred(mostly due to the efforts of Nagata Lock), and we just started calling ourselves the GTASF as a whole: Greater Toronto Street Fighter.  We’re probably the biggest fighting game community in Canada, surpassing British Columbia, Edmonton, and Montreal.

Jump past the break to read about his experience at “The Fight’s About to Begin”!
