King of Fighters XII is Jaw-Dropping

November 30th, 2008 by Keits in Videos |

Everyone is going to be playing this game.  The King of Fighters XII is coming, and each of the returning characters being revealed makes me salavate even more.  Chin and Kensou are hyper stylized, and the differences in the sizes of the characters gives everything such a unique look.  And its smooth.  Silky smooth.  I just wanted to remind you all that with this and BlazBlue coming, 2d is far from dead.  Capcom may be off making beautiful 2.5d games for us to play, but SNK and Aksys have taken the 2d torch and run with it.  Everyone is going to be playing this game.

It’s Coming…

Full HDR OST at OC ReMix

November 29th, 2008 by JAMMAR in Community, News |

OST Front Cover

OC ReMix has released their full soundtrack featured in the actual game for download. This contains 66 tracks, attributed to the fact that all the remixed bgms for the characters have two versions, the original and “Heavy Damage” versions, separate. Personally, I always called the latter “Crazy Intense Music”, because I could not help but to get all worked up and jittery whenever the music changes.

I want to thank my good friend Kevin for telling me about this. It’s funny because he does not own the actual game. Excuse me while I go beat some sense into him.

Day One of HD Remix is in the Books! Link to Complete Change List.

November 27th, 2008 by Keits in News |

Day one of online play around the nation for both Xbox 360 and PS3 owners is in the books.  I talked to a lot of people yesterday with wildly different opinions on which characters are strong and which are weaker now, thanks to the changes.  I even went on Alphaism Radio for a few hours to talk about how I feel about the game.  I am a bit of a critic, but when its all said and done, I did spend 16 hours online playing it yesterday (yes, I had a day off work!).  Its amazing how a list of changes so small that most casual players won’t even be able to tell the difference has given the game new life on this level.  The excitement surrounding this historic release is just amazing.  HD Remix really marks the first time that a developer spent absurd amounts of money giving the hardcore fans what they asked for.  It took a long time, but its here, and at 15 US Dollars, its a steal.

I’ll leave you with a link to my youtube playlist featuring some Day 1 play from some SRK community members and tournament players, as well as a fresh link back to the complete change list. I talked to a few people having trouble finding it, and it certainly is a very smart thing to read if your muscles are stuck remembering ST pretty firmly while you play.

Edit: Playlist from Day 2 SRK matches!

Community Crossup: Francisco “Gandido” Vilaro’

November 26th, 2008 by Keits in Community, Features, News |

Hey, I’m back from my one week break with a new edition of the Crossup.  This week, I bring you the man who placed 2nd in Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection at Evo 2k8, Gandido!  If anyone was there, they remember the most controversial moment of the Evo 2k8 finals day was during Tekken.  Many sites have reported inaccurate stories about what went down, but today you get it straight from one of the people involved.  Accurate like only SRK can bring you!

Battle Fantasia is Available for Xbox 360

November 24th, 2008 by Keits in Online Gaming, Videos |

I realize that this is not news, but I have a feeling that a lot of you may be missing out on a really cool game due to lack of information.  Or, perhaps there is too much hype surounding other upcoming fighting games.  Battle Fantasia is already out and available for the Xbox 360 here in the United States.  What we have here is a really solid fighting game with a lot of unique ideas.  It has a cartoony and fantasy theme going on, mimicing what you would probably see out of a colorful Crystal Chronicles game.   If this is a turn off for you, don’t let it get in the way.  There are some really cool characters (Urs, Face, and Deathbringer) mixed in with the goofy ones (Donvalve, Watson, and Marco), so everyone should be able to find a personality they enjoy.   Get out there and give this a purchase or a rental.  I don’t think you’ll regret it.

HDR Feature List and Round 3 Trailer

November 24th, 2008 by skilletor in Tournaments, Videos |

The Round 3 (Final?) Trailer for HDR. The wait is soon over.

Jimmy Rey at Capcom Unity has a list of all the features we can expect with HDR (which comes out soon, if you hadn’t heard).

A few of note:

6) Advanced networking. The final version of the game has another feature called “smoothing” that lets you turn the input delay up or down. We found that best results were when there’s a very small input delay of 2 frames.

8 ) 8-player tournaments, Ranked Matches, and Unranked Matches with up to 4 spectators. As you saw from the open beta test, you can create your own 8-player, single elimination tournaments as well as Ranked and Unranked Matches.

11) Original costume colors. The original game has 8 costume colors for each character, but these costumes do NOT include the original iconic colors from the first Street Fighter 2. So if you want to play Ryu wearing white or Ken wearing red, your only choice was to play the “old” versions of those characters by using a code. ‘

BlazBlue Vids

November 24th, 2008 by skilletor in Videos |

Blazblue is out and, if you’re lucky, an arcade near you might have it. However, if you’re like me and arcades are only myths like proper grammar on the internet and the Stay Puft Marshmallow man, then you’re going to have to wait until Blazblue is released on consoles to play it. To ease this pain here is a link to Geesendou’s Youtube channel where he is uploading tons of Joybox vids. The game sure is pretty, isn’t it?

New Scans of Dan and Fei, Art Looking Improved

November 21st, 2008 by Keits in News |

Gamekyo.com has posted some great new scans of Fei Long and Dan from SF4.  People are saying (purely from these still pictures) that “Dan may be viable in SF4!”.  It also appears that Fei has a command throw that works very similarly to Yun’s, which should make a lot of you very excited.  Personally, it makes me terrified.  Check out the scans here and here.
