Evo Update! Prize Structure Announced!

May 12th, 2006 by Ponder in News, Online Gaming, Tournaments |

Money_-_Retouched_Money_-_Stacks_of_20s.jpgThe key word to describe this year’s Evo is “more,” which is this case means more money! Here is the finalized prize structure for the Evo2006 world tournament in Las Vegas, NV later this year. This year features two big changes.

Over $65,000 in prize money.

This year features our biggest prize pool by far. Those of you who are good are multiple games could walk away with enough cash to bring home one of these babies in prize money alone. Who said all that time on the couch cradling a controller wouldn’t pay off?

Redesigned Prize Structure

We’ve also restructured our payout to award prizes deeper into the final standings. Now, if you qualify for the Grand Finals on Sunday, you automatically finish in the money. Finishing in the money in one of our major tournament games automatically awards a whopping 25 to 1 payout over your entry fee! Here’s the new prize structure:

Game 1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place 4th Place 5th Place 6th Place 7th Place 8th Place
CvS2 $5000 $2000 $1000 $750 $500 $500 $250 $250
MvC2 $5000 $2000 $1000 $750 $500 $500 $250 $250
T5 $5000 $2000 $1000 $750 $500 $500 $250 $250
3S $5000 $2000 $1000 $750 $500 $500 $250 $250
DOA4 $5000 $2000 $1000 $750 $500 $500 $250 $250
GGXX* $5000 $2000 $1000 $750 $500 $500 $250 $250
HSF2 $5000 $2000 $1000 $750 $500 $500 $250 $250
MKDS $5000 $2000 $1000 $750 $500 $500 $250 $250

* GGXX prize money is per team, not per player

There are two big implications from the new payout schedule. First, If you’re a bubble player who can’t quite crack the top 3, you’ve never had a better opportunity to train up and bank in on your skills. Second, this makes the qualification spots at Evo West and Evo East much more precious: jumping ahead to the semi-finals at the Evo World tournament will drastically reduce the number of matches you need to win to reach the finals: increasing your chance of finishing in the money by a large margin.

So what are you waiting for? Registrations for Evo West have already opened. Players registering in the month of May receive a special discount. We’ll be announcing the final dates and taking registrations for Evo East and the Evo world tournament soon. For more information, check out this discussion thread on the forums.

XBox360 Hyper Fighter Movie

May 1st, 2006 by Ponder in News, Online Gaming |

sf2-hyper-xbl.PNGStill waiting for hyper on the XBox360? I admit, I myself had almost given up and concluded that the title was stuck permenantly in the 6th ring of vaporware hell, when lo’ and behold I stumbled across this video on YouTube from XBox Zone showing the title in all its glory. No network play is shown, so don’t get your hopes up too high. Anyway, check it out.
