Throughout the years, SoulCalibur‘s cast of characters have sported different looks as they move from game to game. Classic looks are often retained as alternate costumes; for SoulCalibur VI however, this will not be the case. At Gamescom 2018, noted series competitor Marie-Laure “Kayane” Norindr has gotten confirmation from SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo that the characters in the game will not have alternate costumes.
For those asking if there will be alternate costumes for #SoulCaliburVI characters, Okubo-san replied me there won’t be unfortunately. Only one costume by char. But with the customization mode, you can try to make the old costumes with the accessories and pieces of armors.

Instead, it seems that players will now be able to recreate classic outfits using the game’s character customization system. This isn’t the first time Bandai Namco has done something like this: Tekken 7 also has a similar system where “alternate costumes” are all integrated into the character customization system.
The question now, at least for competitive players, is how customization will be handled in competitive play. Character customizations are currently not allowed in the Tekken World Tour for Tekken 7. The same rule will almost certainly be applied to SoulCalibur VI as well.
SoulCalibur VI is set to launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 19, 2018.
