While Mortal Kombat developer Ed Boon was oddly silent during E3 and Evo, his recent Tweet confirms development of a new title.

It has been two years since the release of Mortal Kombat XL, and only one year since the inception of Injustice 2. While one game dominates NetherRealm’s competitive scene, not a whisper of Mortal Kombat news has been uttered. Fans were hopeful for a reveal during E3 and Evolution, but nary a word was leaked — until now.

Games developer Ed Boon published a tweet confirming the development of a new game. The Tweet in question featured a picture of two actors in mocap suits, with a simulation running on a screen in the background. Although Boon declined to name the project in question, his post revealed that the NetherRealm team hopes to make it their best game yet.

While a new Injustice seems unlikely due to IJ2’s short lifespan, another Mortal Kombat could very well be in the works. Fans of Earth Realm will have to wait for more information before getting their hopes too high.
