Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] remains a somewhat underrated game in the fighting game community. Despite lower numbers than some other anime fighters, those who play it are extraordinarily passionate about keeping it alive and relevant. Recently, a tournament devoted to French Bread games was announced, Climax of Night; furthermore, the game will get some stream time at Evolution 2018. If you’d like to try the game but are unsure where to start or whom to pick, here’s an excellent primer to read over for help.

Each character primer follows a similar format that summarizes their traits, strengths, weaknesses, general playstyle and strategies. Maybe you’re interested in the martial artist, shoto/rushdown Akatsuki; or you’re drawn to all-out zoners like Hilda. If not, then ultra-fast, ninja-like Seth might be your go-to. Some players describe the game as “anime, but with Street Fighter ground-game/footsies,” as aerial combat is not like in other air-dasher titles. To explain that, the doc also links to a more general UNIST overview with some video tutorials.

It’s a great place to start, and if you already play UNIST, consider sharing this with an FGC friend who has hesitated to get into it.
