A new fighter is on the horizon!

Publisher Nicalis announced that Blade Strangers, previously announced last year, will arrive in stores this summer. The one-on-one fighting game strives to combine the classic feel of older games with a polish and quality of newer-generation titles.

Priced at $39.99, the game will be available both physically and digitally for the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. The title will also be available on Steam. Blade Strangers will feature a total of 14 fighters; ten of them are already announced, while the last four “familiar guest stars” are yet to be revealed. The cast is a mix of original creations and guest characters from other Nicalis games like Cave Story and Studio Saizensen titles Code of Princess EX and Umihara Kawase. The developers aim for accessible controls and include traditional fighting game modes, among them story mode and online play. Their proprietary graphics system transforms 3D models into engaging 2D spritework.

The publisher also released the opening cinematic, which presents the entire cast. And yes, it looks like one of the characters rides a giant cat. I’m sold!
