Following up on their previous videos, History Behind the Warrior is continuing to delve deeper in the mythos behind the rebooted Mortal Kombat universe. In their latest episode, they take a look at the most likely candidate to be the main villain in the next installment of the series: Raiden.

Traditionally, Raiden has been the “big good” of the series, being the force behind the heroes. However, he did become a villain in the previous continuity, something that the new timeline seems to be repeating, as shown by the post-credits scene of Mortal Kombat X. In addition to this however, they also look at other hints hidden throughout the game’s story as well as in the “endings” in the arcade ladder mode.

The interesting bit about this, however, is that “Dark Raiden” in the previous timeline was merely just a subplot. If Raiden is the main villain in future games, it would represent the first time that he’ll get a proper villainous story arc.
