This week’s issue of Famitsu has an interview with Dissidia Final Fantasy NT producer Ichiro Hazama and director Takeo Kujiraoka. In the interview, they discuss certain things about the setting and story of the game, including how it relates to the arcade version and the previous games.
Regarding the story itself, the draft was written by Kazuhige Nojima based on a concepts by Saori Itamuro. Fans should recognize the former as the scenario writer for Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX, while the latter was the lead scenario designer for Final Fantasy XV as well as the RPG planner for the original Dissidia games on PSP.
The story and setting themselves are meant to help explain both the reason for the conflict taking place in the game’s world, and why they are now battling it out in teams of three.
In addition to this, they’ve confirmed that Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is both a sequel to the original PSP games, as well as a prequel to the arcade version. As such, the ending for the game sets up the arcade game — the arcade version’s opening sequence will supposedly make more sense once you’ve seen the ending of NT.
Now, with such a large cast of characters, some of them will receive less focus than others. They’ve confirmed in the interview that some of this is will be rectified in future DLC for the game.
Finally, in regards to updates for the game, they’ve confirmed that the arcade version will be getting updates first before NT on the PlayStation 4.
This is just part of the interview; Siliconera has a few more translated notes from it.
