As previously reported, Saudi artist Mashael Al Barrack won a contest held by SNK and Manga Productions to design a new character to appear in one of their games. Now, as a result SNK has announced that a female fighter from the region of Najd will be coming to The King of Fighters XIV as a DLC character.

Mashael’s design was chosen from over 300 designs from artists from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and more. Involved in the selection was a 13-person panel including KOFXIV producer Yasuyuki Oda, character designer Eisuke Ogura, and art director Nobuyuki Kuroki.

In addition to the character, another contest was also held for a new stage. The winning design, based on the Masmak Fort in Riyadh — by Zainab Al-Lawaty of Oman — will also be coming as DLC.
