Welcome to the Rollback: a frame-by-frame look back at our past week’s most notable news — and our favorite SRK articles — from October 20 to October 26, 2017!

Zavian “mushin_Z” Sildra, Editor-in-Chief:

Frame 1:

The first Strider? Check out the similarities between Street Fighter V’s Zeku and Strider Hiryu’s classic sprites

Now that Zeku has been added to Street Fighter V, we can see for ourselves how the question of his connection to the Strider universe is pretty much put to rest by his Character Story. It’s still cool to see how his SFV models — both young and old — share Strider Hiryu’s movement patterns.

The stage is the life bar: How indie fighting games like Nidhogg II reinterpret the concept of damage

In this video, LudicRyan describes how Nidhogg II blends the simplicity of other indie fighters with the design concepts of Street Fighter and its like — and how the life bar is still there, just not where we’re used to seeing it!

Not content with seeing the world’s best Tekken players going at it, the TWT Finals in November will have a special DBFZ exhibition — with Perfect Legend going up against Sonic Fox. Let’s hope it’s not another 13-0…

Frame 3:
gamecube_controller_adapter-656x369Nintendo Switch 4.0.0 update has added GameCube controller functionality

Fire up the rumor mill folks, as the latest firmware update for the Nintendo Switch has made the Wii U GameCube adapter work with the console. While many minds will no doubt think Smash is on the way, I’m more looking forward to a GameCube Virtual Console.

Keegan “Interrobang!?” Spindler, Features Editor:

Frame 1:
Echo Fox YankeesThe New York Yankees are taking a swing at esports by joining up with Echo Fox via an “investor partnership”

Quite apart from the excellent wordplay in the headline, this is a fascinating development for Echo Fox. The team has been performing excellently in recent times, so it’s no surprise that there is some interest from places outside the FGC.

Frame 2:
ISDD DieminionShoryuken interview: Imstilldadaddy talks about his life, his characters, and Gfinity Series

Since I’m based in the UK, it always brings a smile to my face when a player from home turf get good results. Imstilldadaddy has a great story, and this interview with SRK is well worth a read.

Frame 3:
