One of the players who caught a lot of attention at the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite tournament at SoCal Regionals 2017 was third-place finisher Richard “RichardWins” Nguyen. Richard stunned many players with his impressive Dormammu and Dante play, including a perfect game against Brokentier’s Daniel “Clockw0rk” Maniago, and an exciting losers finals set against Splyce’s Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez.

Now, it seems that his impressive play has gotten Richard a sponsorship. Rise Nation has announced that he will be joining their team as a Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite player.

Rise Nation is no stranger to the world of professional fighting games. Alongside Richard, their current roster includes Martin “Marn” Phan, and Bryant “Smug” Huggins as fighting game players. Both of these also compete in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite alongside Street Fighter V.

Richard Nguyen started as a Street Fighter IV player before moving on to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. While he stopped actively competing around 2014, it seems that he’s making his comeback with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Prior to SCR2017, Richard reportedly trained with Dante using the game’s story demo, making the most of the limited tools available there. It’s this kind of dedication, alongside his stellar play, that likely attracted Rise Nation into signing him.

We here at Shoryuken wish the best to both Richard Nguyen and Rise Nation in this new relationship!
