Moving from Guilty Gear to Dragon Ball, Bandai Namco have announced a collaboration with Arc System Works for a new anime fighting game. Named Dragon Ball Fighters, the game has players selecting teams of three characters from the Dragon Ball universe to duke it out in “ultra high speed battles,” according to Bandai Namco’s Japanese press release.
Similar to Guilty Gear Xrd, Dragon Ball Fighters will be a 2.5D fighter, in order to include dramatic camera angles and character expressions that you wouldn’t normally see in a traditional 2D fighter. Based on the screenshots from the leaked press release, Goku, Vegeta, Maijin Buu, Freeza and Cell will be playable, along with a sixth yet unidentified character. Based on the hero/villain character line-up, I could hazard a guess that it will either be Gohan or Future Trunks.
This announcement was supposed to come out during E3 on June 12th, so expect a potential trailer during Sony’s press conference on Monday. A Marvel-esque Dragon Ball game made by Arc System Works sounds like a dream come true for many fans, so let’s hope any footage we do see lives up to the hype. Dragon Ball Fighters is planned to release worldwide in early 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
