Welcome to the Rollback: a frame-by-frame look back at our past week’s most notable news–and our favorite SRK articles–from May 5 to May 11, 2017!

Capcom reveals the official trailer for Ed–the “Young Commander”–and provides his V-system details

After a (probably) accidental leak and a period of silence afterwards, Capcom finally opened up this week about Ed, showing off his beefy new look and giving us details on how he will play–and he looks to shake thing s up a bit, much as Kolin did. He’s playable right now in the CFN beta test, too.

Frame 2:
you are already dead hokuto no ken 750x400
You’re already dead: On-site at the Fist of the North Star National Championships

I love seeing how communities in Japan remain devoted to old and somewhat obscure–at least to us in the West–titles like this. Jazz gives us another great look at such an event, this time for the so-bad-it’s-good Hokuto no Ken.

Frame 3:
CrossUPDP asks: Is Street Fighter V too easy, or just about right for the intended audience?

A debate not easily settled, depending on where your skill, experience, and expectations are in relation to Street Fighter, and fighting games in general. CrossUPDP gives us a good breakdown of how these factors will influence what you want–and get–out of Street Fighter V.

Injustice 2 Championship SeriesWarner Bros. and ESL announce the Injustice 2 Championship Series

Going all in on Injustice 2, Warner Bros and the ESL are not only hosting a Pro Series, but special tournaments in North America, Europe and Latin America. No matter your skill level, there will be an Injustice tournament for you.

Frame 2:
ARMS Motion ControlsNintendo will be running a tournament for ARMS at E3 2017 on June 14th

As E3 is open to the public this year, Nintendo are running a special ARMS tournament for any contenders on the show floor. With the motion-controlled fighter coming out later that week, this event is the perfect time to get some high-level practice in.

Frame 3:
RoA Shine 2017The Rivals Championship Series returns for its second season

Following its successful inaugural season, the Rivals Championship Series is returning for 2017. Along with adding Australia to the circuit, Season Two of the RCS boasts more online monthlies to compliment its offline events. Get practicing platform fighter fans!

kvotsbggrev2Check out the KVO x TSB Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 tournament footage from Japan with English commentary

Guilty Gear was the game of choice when I visited Akihabara a few months ago, and it seems all that practice has been paying off. This REV 2 play is exceptional–and we get to fully enjoy it thanks to English commentary.

Frame 2:
Umebura Japan MajorThe Japanese Super Smash Bros. for Wii U community comes together at Umebura Japan Major

One of the biggest Japanese Smash 4 events of all time, Umebura Japan Major was absolutely a celebration of all things Smash 4. In the end KEN couldn’t defend against MKLeo’s Mexican invasion, but there was tons of great Smash along the way.

Frame 3:
Captain ColdEcho Fox’s Sonic Fox shares his Injustice 2 character picks for competitive play

With Injustice 2 just around the corner (finally!) the best in the business has spoken up about the characters he is most excited about trying out. Don’t take this as a tier list or anything of the sort, but it’s great to see what top players are excited about going into the IJ2’s release.
