One of the more prevalent new elements added in many multiplayer games (including fighting games such as Street Fighter V) is a form of in-game currency that allows players to purchase content. Now, it seems that NetherRealm Studios is hopping on this bandwagon for their upcoming Injustice 2, with the announcement of “Source Crystals.”
Source Crystals will be the in-game currency for Injustice 2, and can be purchased with real money through the PlayStation Network and Xbox One stores. To prevent a “pay to win” situation from developing in the game however, Source Crystals can only be used to purchase cosmetic items, such as Premiere costumes with no gameplay advantage, and special shaders for the characters. Gear itself cannot be purchased with Source Crystals. You can check out an example of this customization below:
In addition to this, players can also opt spend Source Crystals to transform Gear. This means that players can transfer the visuals of one piece of gear onto another. This is so that players who may prefer the look of one piece of gear but the stats of another to copy the look of the former onto the latter. With this, players can have their preferred stats paired with their preferred visual elements.
Finally, once players have leveled up one character to level 20, they can also use Source Crystals to level up other characters to level 20 as well.
Of course, there are a few more nuances to Source Crystals. You can learn more about them via this FAQ from Warner Bros.
