Just at BEAST 7 was announced during Melee top 8, a Smash 4 tournament was introduced during their own top 8. Hosted by Pulse Gaming, one of the key contributors to the Smash 4 coverage at The Big House 6, Frostbite 2017 will gather together the Midwest’s best, as well as players from further afield for a weekend of some great Smash 4 action. Besides the obvious draw of seeing top Midwestern talent fighting each other, the big bombshell from the Frostbite announcement was that two of Japan’s greatest character specialists will be making their American debut at Frostbite 2017.
Shuton and T are invited to attend Frostbite 2017, bringing the world’s best Olimar and Japan’s best Link to fight on an American stage. Shuton is quickly climbing the ranks of Japanese Smash, taking first place at Shulla-bra VII and VIII, as well as Hirosuma 5. He has also placed second at Umebura 22 and narrowly missed out on winning the Japanese qualifier for The Big House 6 by losing to Komorikiri in Grand Finals. While not hitting the heights that Shuton has, T’s Link is arguably the best in Japan, defeating Ranai in the Losers’ bracket of Umebura S.A.T and getting second at Umebura 24. Let’s see how these Japanese player adapt to the US playstyle, and the Midwestern cold at Frostbite 2017 in February.
Registration is now available over on the official smash.gg page, with early bird prices ending on the 1st of November.
