Katsuhiro Harada Discusses Tekken 7’s Super Slow Motion, Stages, and Lucky Chloe

Bandai Namco’s official Tekken Channel recently held a special “Just Before Launch” broadcast for Tekken 7. In it, series producer Katsuhiro Harada talked about some new features of the game, his inspiration for the game’s stages, and new character Lucky Chloe.

At around 3 minutes into the video, there’s a demonstration of the game’s new Super Slow Motion camera. This feature is triggered when both players are at low health and pull off moves at the same time.  According to Harada, this feature is supposed to give the game a more cinematic feel during these tense moments where players aren’t sure who’s attack will hit. Even if both attacks miss, it can be triggered again in the same way.

As for Lucky Chloe, Harada says his instructions to the team were to create a character type that hadn’t been seen in Tekken. Interestingly enough, he was initially apprehensive and wasn’t sure whether a character like Lucky Chloe would be okay until one of the designers pointed out that this was the type of character that he asked for.

After this, Harada is asked about where he gets his inspiration for the game’s stage. Most of them, he explains, come via fan requests from all over the world, and that he tends to look them up and do all kinds of research before turning them into stages.

Finally, at around the 11 minute mark, the video shows some gameplay and combos for various characters, including a set of mirror matches featuring Lucky Chloe.

Tekken 7 is currently under limited release in select Japanese arcades with a full release scheduled for March 18. It will be making its North American debut at Final Round 18, which is taking place March 20-22 at Atlanta, Georgia.
