With so much focus on their King of Fighters series, it’s sometimes easy to forget that SNK’s fighting empire started with the original Fatal Fury back in 1991. Now, Italian fan studio SEEP have taken the old game, and remade it as a 2D beat ’em up.

Fatal Fury Final is a fan-game that retells the story of the original Fatal Fury. Instead of a traditional fighter, however, the game has been turned into a sidescroller where the playable characters go through various hordes of thugs.

The game retains the old school Neo-Geo aesthetic, so much so that it could be mistaken for an old, unreleased game. Aside from the regular story mode, the game also has a South Town Quest mode that allows players to use not just the original three playable characters, but the non-playable bosses as well.

If you’re a fan of the original though, never fear, because the regular one-on-one gameplay can still be selected in a separate mode.

Interested parties can head on over to SEEP’s site to download the game for free. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
