UPDATE – According to a recent tweet by Capcom’s Peter “Combofiend” Rosas, the Omega mode add-on will not be part of the ver.1.04 patch.
While many were expecting a rather diverse set of announcements from Capcom’s presentation today at Tokyo Game Show 2014, I honestly doubt anyone expected what they ultimately revealed.
Ultra Street Fighter IV will soon receive a new piece of downloadable content called Omega mode. This special edition of the game will allow players to pick remixed versions of their favorite fighters that put new spins on their existing moves, add new techniques, and more.
Some of the examples shown off by Capcom’s Peter “Comobofiend” Rosas in the video below include Ken’s ability to throw fireballs from his feet (both straight and at an upward angle like Gouken), Guile receiving an overhead kick similar to Street Fighter III’s Remy, and more.
Much like Edition Select, it’s highly unlikely this mode will find any play on the competitive circuit outside of side events, but it should still add a bit of flavor to your casual sessions. Plus, it will be available to players in netplay, though only in unranked matches for obvious reasons.
Check out the demonstration below and let us know what you think.
This mode will be bundled with Ultra Street Fighter IV’s upcoming 1.04 patch. Coming October, this update will fix the unintended adjustments to Rolento, Decapre, and Cody from the previous version change, add a delayed wakeup option for the training mode dummy, and improve the online experience for players on PC.
More information is set to be released as we near launch, but feel free to check out the official announcement over on Capcom-Unity for further details.
