NetherRealm Studios’ Ed Boon Has Been Talking About Mortal Kombat’s Goro Quite a Bit Lately

During development on Injustice: Gods Among Us and now Mortal Kombat X, NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon has been having a go at the community on a variety of levels. Teasers, riddles, and more have signified the future of both titles at various points in their promotional campaigns, and his latest round of tweets may be pointing towards on specific veteran’s future in the series.

It all started two days ago on September 2 when Boon shared a photo of a neon sign reading “Goro’s Lair,” complete with a variety of vintage arcade cabinets in what appears to be someone’s personal Mortal Kombat hangout or even a room at their studio. While alone this may be construed as simply passing along a cool image, he followed it up later that day with another picture depicting a model of the Shokan brawler’s head.

But he didn’t stop there. After being pestered for more clues, Boon passed along an interesting message.

While at first it doesn’t appear to signify much, a clever fan pointed out that, when put together, the words’ capitalized letters spell out–you guessed it–GORO.

And finally, Boon shared an image just this afternoon showing off Goro’s original claymotion model, which was used during development on the very first Mortal Kombat title. The picture was, of course, bundled with the director’s signature brand of humor.

So, what do you think? Could we be on the verge of a Goro reveal? Or will another member of the Shokan race (perhaps a descendent) take his place? Feel free to provide your thoughts in the comments below.
