Though its release was less than a month ago, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late has quickly found a foothold in a North American community that hasn’t been able to play the game themselves until it arrived on consoles.

Developed by French-Bread and Ecole Software of Melty Blood fame, the title mixes a cast full of fresh faces (as well as a couple crossover guests) with unique gameplay mechanics into a package that has piqued the interests of fighting game players from all walks of life. This success recently saw In-Birth make an appearance at east coast weekly Next Level Battle Circuit, and a recent announcement from the organizers of West Coast Warzone has provided the game its major debut in the United States.

This weekend, it was revealed that Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late will be replacing Tekken Tag Tournament 2 at West Coast Warzone 4. The announcement cites a lack of interest from the Tekken community as the deciding factor in this decision. While the title has seen some great competition courtesy of online and local events, it should be interesting to see how it fares on a much larger stage.

West Coast Warzone 4 is scheduled for September 5-7 in Orange, California. Further information can be found on their official website.

I am not a anime fighter game fan and i enjoy Under Night In-Birth more them TTT2 lol

    • Johnny Rage

What game are you a fan of then? MK9? :/

      • RobertEspaillat

        i am a SF player.

    • peter her

Whiff punishment over 2d footsies anyday. Besides the fan base for these games consist of a bunch of weirdos anyway.

      • TagAnarchy

That’s kind of opinionated, as is the case with any comment section. I digress.

Who of note is so weird that it would draw you away from the genre as a whole? There’s always a small handful throughout all games that can come off as weird. It’s just how fanbases are in the end.

        • Gamegeezer

Someone once told me i look like a Guilty Gear player……..i sobbed in a corner for a week…….then played Guilty Gear.

        • peter her

Unless if your good at whiff punishing with perfect electrics then you must be good tekken player. Also wheres your people at to promote this game i dont see them.

        • Flutterderp

          Aris.

          • Johnny Rage

Aris is awesome. You’re the weird one.

      • ImperiumProTeamMcArthur

if you think 2d games has no whiff punishes then your eyes are slow

        • peter her

Yeah but your games full of offense wheres the defence at least my game has that. Wheres the block punishment.

          • ImperiumProTeamMcArthur

there are block -> punish in ALL fighting games. again i know 2d and 3d’s game flow look different but both genres have both offense and defense

          • peter her

Yeah but do people utilize it in casual and pro play not as much as you want to it. 2d games kinda lack defense, probably depending on the players.

      • TheBlackRabbit

        Lol….sounds like u r bad at 2d fighters

        • peter her

Then that must be tekken is too hard. You need tobe left hand dominant to have any movement. It must be hard to side step and learn frame data.

          • TheBlackRabbit

            Actually tekken is easy…..

          • peter her

Can you do Taunt Jet Upper, PEWGF, K backdashing, and dash jabs to mach kick.

          • TheBlackRabbit

            nope

          • peter her

Then sure i guess tekken is pretty easy then.

          • TheBlackRabbit

            indeed

      • JasinWalraven

Your game is dead. Move on.

        • peter her

Your games are a dime a dozen.

          • TheBlackRabbit

why did you guys allow it to die? I mean i friggin love tekken…..

          • peter her

i dont represent the Tekken delegation if thats what you mean.

  • Gpop

    French Bread fighters too strong.

I mean people still play Melty even with this game out, though they are probably players who don’t own a PS3 still.

  • Heroking

    Yo animeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Eric Nguyen

    YO DAMN!!!

Anime gets its revenge after what Tekken did to Skullgirls did at EVO! (Depends on whether you call Skullgirls “Anime”, and yes I think it’s fun to sink this low every once in a while)

    • void

“oh8” has his own art style i feel. i have seen some fan art of SG looking more anime but for the most part i’d say SG is its own thing, not anime. either way you or i see it i dont really care. its a unique art style.

    • Novril

No one gets “revenge” on anyone… Tekken players simply stopped supporting their game.

      • TheBlackRabbit

        still counts

  • MasterScrub

UNiB is great, I’m really glad it’s got a scene over here.

  • Rock Bogard

i dont quite understand the necessity to label a fighter as “anime” or not. if its fun to play and you enjoy the mechanics then why does it matter if its anime?

I am happy to see that this game is picking up a little steam in the states, i think its a fantastic fighter. im looking forward to watching some high level matches =)

    • JeanLucAwesome

I agree, besides it’s an art style and an art style that works damn well for fighting games.

and you can argue Street Fighter, King of Fighters, ect. all have an “anime art style”. So yeah… I really don’t get it either.

      • jelani noel

Its more than just art style. Its all presentation. The music, the moves, the char designs. Just because the male cast has fabulous hair doesnt make it anime

    • Clise

I guess mechanics as a whole. I know some people refer to Aquapazza as an anime fighter, because it looks like an anime, but some don’t because it plays like super turbo, to each his own I guess. Glad to see this game getting exposure though, because it is ridiculous amounts of fun.

      • peter her

Yeah but funny thing is all the characters have appeared in an anime and a visual novel at one point.

        • Clise

Yeah, I believe the visual novels they are from are in the character select screen. I wish people stop writing fighting games of because of there “anime” appearance, because that game is super solid and fun.

          • peter her

Never played but i feel like they be pumping out anime fighters out the wazoo when is there gonna be another 3d fighting game. I feel like 2d anime fighters are a dime a dozen, Aquapazza, Arcana 3love max, Koihime musou, UNIB Late night exe, Persona Ultimax Ultra Suplex hold, Blazblue Chrona Phantasma, Yatagarasu, and that dengekic Bunko fighting climax too much anime fighters dammit.

    • void

      cause people hate anime.

    • DukeMagus

A bit of a misconception on the name. It’s just that the majority of the games with such mobility are drawn closer to anime style. Some people call them “airdashers” and put marvel in the group. I think it’s a bit more accurate that way

  • Candle Ja

I’m happy for UNIEL and sad for Tekken. I hope that some day, everyone will come together and agree that Namco will not make a Tekken that is better than DR and go back to playing that.

    • Henry

I’m the slowest mutha in the world because I never put together what UNIEL meant until I read your comment, so thanks for clearing that up for me. It’s crazy that how often I seen that acronym and not know it stood for Under Night. That many people are excited for it? That pleases me as a Melty Blood player.

      • Candle Ja

        UNIEL is that game*.

        *until Xrd, maybe**

        **or MKX, maybe.

  • void

i can’t decide on spending my money now for the import or waiting it out for the american release.

    • JeanLucAwesome

Same here, but if you’re getting Persona and or Guilty Gear like I am that should tide you over. That said, you might be to busy playing those at that point. lol

      • Hauke Sprenger

no dizzy no baiken… so dont know how much i will play xrd. but i already own uniel ๐Ÿ˜€

      • void

        yep im getting xrd

    • dehhh

      Same.

  • TheBlackRabbit

    All hail unib

  • dehhh

    Eyyyy, get hype.

  • ReddChief78

Smart decision by the TO’s making things just that more hype.

  • Hauke Sprenger

nice, i really like to watch and play uniel ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Spektru

UNiB deserves that, it’s a great and fun game.

  • jelani noel

    Good

  • MrGoingHam

Wow… how come no one likes tekken tag tournament 2 anymore? What happened??

    • Henry

What happened? The game has like 40 characters and each of them has literally 140 moves. You could probably learn two or three fighters in the time it takes to learn Tekken to an intermediate level. People who grew up with Tekken won’t have a problem with it, but then again, people who didn’t don’t stand a chance against those guys.

    • JasinWalraven

Not just Tekken, VF5 and DOA Folks Don’t come out. This week at the Walraven Weekly in Detroit, MI our format is we will run any game that gets at least 4 people to play. This week we had USF4, Uniel, UMvC3, PM, and KI. The 3D players have just stopped wanting to compete.

  • Guest

I welcome any new fighter, i wish we could have more of these on steam!
