When the Capcom Pro Tour was first announced, all of the ranking events but SoCal Regionals 2014 happened to be major gaming conventions. While PAX East 2014 back in April still featured a traditional tournament, Capcom has decided to shift their plans for this year’s E3.

Instead of an open bracket, E3 2014 will instead host an extravagant Ultra Street Fighter IV invitational, supported by exhibitions for the upcoming title’s new characters and Edition Select mode.

Evil Geniuses’ Justin Wong, Ricky Ortiz, Eduardo “PR Balrog” Perez, and Kenneth “K-Brad” Bradley will fill up half of the bracket, with Alex Valle of Level|Up Series and YUBIKEN’s Jason “Jayce the Ace” Nghe taking two spots for Southern California. Much like they did for SoCal Regionals, Twitch will be flying in two as-of-yet unnamed Japanese players to shake things up, so stay tuned for more details.

These eight players will be competing for  a $3000 prize pool provided by Capcom on a “special custom-made eSports stage” built just for E3.

E3 2014 is scheduled for June 10-12 in Los Angeles, California. If you aren’t able to attend in person, all of these festivities will be broadcast on Capcom Fighters.

    Please be Haitani and Nuki.

Iunno, I thought it was neat that they brought in two players with next to no overseas exposure last time. I wouldn’t mind seeing that trend continue, especially since the Gods are all coming to EVO.

I really like how you can buy a compendium to add to the pot of TI4. That’d be great if Capcom can do something similar. They would have to produce something we can purchase. DLC fighter tag to add to the EVO pot? So when you go online it has a EVO logo on your fighter tag that shows your support. Its got to show the year also to in can be recognized annually …I dunno.

Did you just compare USFIV to Dota? lol

      • LvL3MashFactor

I’m not comparing games at all. I just like how Valve gives the Dota community a option to add to the prize pool (people who don’t attend).

    More invitationals!

  • It kind of sounds like they’re copying Nintendo

  • Bushin_Cat

Sounds to me like Capcom will use their ESports stage to do their unofficial press conference.

And I’m still holding out for a Darkstalkers 4 or Rival Schools 3 announcement. I reFUse to let’em die!
