SEGA and Level|Up Series have teamed up once again to bring you the second edition of the SEGA CUP Virtua Fighter Tournament. In last year’s event, Japanese Virtua Fighter legend Fuudo of Team Razer took home the very first championship. This year the champ is again traveling across the Pacific to defend his crown, together with Razer teammate Itabashi Zangief and VF veteran Chofu K·K Sarah, who finished 3rd and 4th, respectively. Joining them will be some of the strongest Virtua Fighters of the US, at the popular Super Arcade in Walnut, California.

The title of competition is of course Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, with $15,000 in cash prizes up for grabs. Each match is best of 3 games, with the exception of Winners, Losers and Grand Finals, which will be best of 5 games.

There’s an extra L in the article title.

woow people still playing virtua fighters? thats sooooo 2006

  • Jahmere Durham

Hoping to see some high level Brad play. I still enjoy the hell out of this game.

    • Dom Bonato

Actually we saw some Brad play from Renzo and Rocket. Apparently from the results we now know that Rocket is the better Brad player. Both Brads got 7th last year and since Rocket got 3rd over Renzo’s 5th, it looks like Rocket is more dominant.

  • Kid Kuma

Akira wasn’t top 8??? But arashi made 4th??? I’ve been out of this game too long.

  • bavobbr

That Fuudo. I wonder what is hardest, being high level in SF4 or VF. He just does both, and few players actually try mixing the two genres

    • Eileithyia

VF is probably harder, but SF4 has more competition. That made it harder to win.

      • BlueLink

Competition in Japan for VF is really big, so that makes winning in VF harder actually.

    • Especially considering the differences in 2D & 3D Playstyles. Thats almost like MJ being as good in baseball as he was in basketball. (Notice the ALMOST) LOL!!

      • SDS_Overfiend

        Bo jackson lol

  • H_Magnus

Still can’t believe that Fuudo would choose to knucklehead people, of all things.

    • Dom Bonato

Do you mean Fuudo counterpicked Itazan with Lion. He dropped Lion for Shun in FS (current game)
