This weekend, Taito Channel was updated with a trio of new videos in their series of demonstrations for Ultra Street Fighter IV’s official NESiCA website.

In this latest round, Mad Catz’ Daigo Umehara, Tokido, and Mago return to provide looks at Hugo, Akuma, and Juri respectively. As with previous videos, these deal with very fundamental aspects of each character’s gameplay and should be very easy to follow even for those unable to speak Japanese.

Feel free to give the demonstrations below some of your time and let us know how you think these fighters have transitioned to the updated title.

If you’ve missed out on previous videos, be sure to follow the links below and check them out as well.

The thought of Hugo without parrying makes my head explode.

  • Jerrod Branson

Daigo seems serious about this move to grapplers after EVO. Considering most grapplers have to rely on reads moreso than most other characters, especially Hugo in 3rd Strike for example, Daigo will be fine. He’s definitely got mind games covered.

    • CrazyMobius

I think he’ll just play Ryu.

  • Hugo Andore. The 7’10” giant who can’t get past projectiles safely without burning meter.

    • Doopliss_SWE

      Clap, also D,D+MK.

  • CrazyMobius

What the? I didn’t know the Dino Stage made it to Ultra! I hope the roof top stage also made it across. Hugo rules.

    • Thirties John

Yep, they took about six stages from SFXT. If by Roof Top you mean the Mishima Estate, then no, it’s not in Ultra.

      • CrazyMobius

Oh it’s a Tekken reference? That makes sense.

  • Thirties John

The Akuma video demonstrates a very important point:

If you want damage, particularly with one of the “60%” characters, don’t use W Ultra.

I really have to question dropping any character’s Ultra below 2/3 (~67%) damage, but it is what it is, I guess… I’d honestly give up 5% damage for the characters with 75% damage W Ultras (i.e. bring them down to 70%), just to raise up these poor characters to 67%… and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t use most of these 60% characters.

    • Thirties John

Then again, 67% and 70% are pretty much the same thing, now that I think about it, ha ha…

The smartest way to do it, at least in my opinion, would have been to alter the damage for W Ultra on an Ultra-by-Ultra basis.

For example, Zangief… bringing his Ultra II down to 60% wouldn’t be so bad if they kept his Ultra I at 75%, etc. That kind of thing.

      • Thirties John

Also there’s the simple fact that, as meager as 60% or even 75% may seem to some people, Ultras were never meant to be tacked on to the end of long combos to begin with as is demonstrated in these various character videos.

Do an eight- or nine-move (not “hit”) combo (say, with Sakura, Dudley, E. Ryu, etc.) and you’re basically throwing away your Ultra meter by ending it with an Ultra, because even with a “100% damage” Ultra in AE v2012, it’s only going to be doing 10% damage at that point anyway.

        • Felipe Pereira

i agree with you. Ultras are meant to “be” the combo I guess, not to end it lol

    • pootnannies

the benefit might be that he can have a lot more demon ultras in one round and even though they do crap damage in W mode, they have 2 frame start up and he also gets a couple of free teleports with U2. it’s not so much the damage in going with U2 with W but the fact it lets you teleport easier. that’s what i figure anyway.

  • At last I get to see the Akuma’s new “force stand” mk knee!

  • Felipe Pereira

everything I do/participate/enjoy that is not on my mother language is either in english or japanese. I think I’ll start learning japanese lol

  • Tenmakujinkyaku

so what? its easier to hit cr.lk~cr.mk with juri now? is that what im seeing? thats cool, now wheres my C.Viper, Dan, and Decapre video? If you have to go in any particular order, i wanna see a Dan video asap, By daigo please.

  • Vas Gian

i like how this employs the use of red FADC to get a guaranteed combo extension. cool new mechanic.
