Smash Legends Ken “SephirothKen” Hoang and Daniel “KoreanDJ” Jung Signed to Team Liquid

According to an announcement made earlier today, competitive gaming organization Team Liquid is set to make their first foray into the fighting game community by signing a pair of old-school Smashers. Ken “SephirothKen” Hoang and Daniel “KoreanDJ” Jung, both of whom were featured heavily in Travis Beauchamp’s amazing Super Smash Bros. documentary series, will officially return to the competitive scene as part of the group’s first fighting game contingent. Hoang most recently placed ninth at SoCal Regionals 2014.

In Team Liquid’s official statement, owner Victor “Nazgul” Goossens cited the aforementioned documentary and Smash’s overall stellar showing in 2013 as their main reasons to get involved with the community.

This is an interesting turn of events for the Smash scene, which has seen quite a resurgence since its return to Evo last year. Let’s hope these new sponsorships are a sign of exciting things to come for the community that refused to die.

Goossens’ full statement can be found over on onGamers.

Congrats to both ken and kdj. Its great that TL picked up these two guys who can hopefully link the past to the present state of melee.

Nice, it’s good to see Ken’s serious enough again with it to get sponsored. Though hm…I wonder how this would factor in if he got called back to do Survivor again. I mean hell, he almost won the damn thing a few years back, lol.
