With so many great franchises under their belts, Nintendo has a ton of source material to pull characters from in order to fill out the Super Smash Bros. rosters. As such, this leads the fanbase to pull for their favorites in the hopes they make into the game.

One such characters is Waluigi, the oft-ridiculed member of the Mario family. Though he excels in tennis and dancing, his popularity mostly comes from a more ironic space rather than genuine. Series director Masahiro Sakurai took the chance to mess with these fans in tonight’s daily update.

Waluigi will appear in the game, Sakurai says, but he’ll still be relegated to the role of an assist trophy. The image and its message can be found below.

Once again, Waluigi's Assist Trophy joins the collection!! …Which also means he's not a playable character. Just because you try hard doesn't mean you'll make it into the battle.

Low blow, Sakurai.
