Skullgirls Encore

While Skullgirls has been absent from consoles over the past month thanks to a fiasco with former publisher Konami, the indie fighter is set to make a grand return to PlayStation Network next week as Skullgirls Encore. An updated version of the former title, Encore will feature a number of changes that are already present on Steam, most notably the very first downloadable character Squigly, who will be available free of charge for the first three months.

According to past information provided by Lab Zero Games, those who previously purchased Skullgirls will receive this update for free, though it may take a little bit longer for it to arrive in Europe and Japan.

UPDATEAccording to Lab Zero Games’ Peter Bartholow, they are hoping to get Skullgirls Encore on the European PlayStation Network the following week, though no guarantees can be given.

If you’re a fan who has been eagerly awaiting a chance to play Skullgirls on PlayStation 3 again, you’ll only have to wait until February 11 to get your hands on Encore. Two special trailers, one for the game itself and the other for Squiqly, were recently released to celebrate this news, so feel free to check them out below.

UPDATE – In the same NeoGAF post mentioned above, Bartholow said that the Xbox 360 version was delayed a bit due to some negotiations that were just recently resolved. They plan to submit the Skullgirls Encore update to Microsoft early next week.

  • About time.

  • Gabriel González

I cant remember if they mentioned if the color pack would be a separated download or if they will come with encore.

    Anyone knows?

    • Jason Slade

I think you have to download it yourself but it will be free for a limited time?

      I think that’s the deal.

      • Gabriel González

I see, any info regarding the time frame? i will be out on a trip the week encore is relaunched on PSN.

        • Peter Bartholow

It’ll be free for a month.

Finally Sony and Konami got their heads out of their asses long enough to approve it.

    • Jayy Hussle

It was Konami’s fault. Sony was just following orders to avoid legal trouble.

Can’t wait. I wish Big Band was finished already though.

    January my ass!

Combos in video are 10 times shorter than in the actual game.
Please do not disconnect during a combo, if you can find someone to fight online.

    • Snow Loss

They’re still shorter than most BlazBlue combos and a bit shorter than a decent chunk of non-Doom/ Virgil combos if you’re discounting burst baiting for the second example I listed.

How about a ps4 version with arcade stick support? (McCthulhu/Qanba).

  • spades111

wow small indie devs were able to get their update to us faster than Arc System Works… we’ll never see guilty gear accent core R+

    • Raymond

and they got kicked in the balls by konami like 5 times. XD

  • Eric Nguyen

I’m so glad this is happening. If they couldn’t pull this off before SCR… well, I shudder to think what could’ve happened to this game’s tournament life…

Once the Xbox version launches, I can get my buddies to start playing again!

  • Jason Slade

This is just the old launch trailer but still, great news.

  • Chooch

What happens to the people who bought the PS3 version at launch?

    • Peter Bartholow

All existing PSN owners will automatically receive an XMB message with a voucher for free copy of Skullgirls Encore. Click the link and it will redeem the voucher and take you to the store page to download the game.

  • Awesome. I’m anxious to try out Squigly.

  • Dion Johnson

I get paid on the 9th…best.timing.ever.

  • Kal El Cool J

Let me guess. No Xbox version? Either way, I’m glad for Skullgirls getting a re-release. Hopefully this game actually gets a bigger playerbase.
