While Performance Designed Products’ (PDP) competitive gaming team survived a rocky 2013 after layoffs and other restructuring took place at the company, it was announced earlier today that Team Afterglow Elite has been officially disbanded. PDP’s community manager Candace Hinton provided this statement via Facebook:

Performance Designed Products has come to the difficult decision to discontinue the Team Afterglow Elite program. While PDP has made great strides in supporting the Fighting Game Community over the past few years we realize that all good things must come to an end. The time has come to open new doors and new opportunities for the gaming community as a whole.

We appreciate all of the incredible work that Team Afterglow Elite members of both past and present have done for us. In addition, a huge thank you to Sebastian Jennings for the effort he put into building the team to what it has become today.

We are currently developing a program that will open up new doors for PDP. The program will cater to a wider audience within the gaming community. This program will be more involved, more entertaining and more open to players at large. PDP will continue to be a supporter of eSport events and competitors in the near future.

Though it diminished over time, Afterglow Elite’s roster still featured some considerable talent after the restructure, including dominant Marvel champion Chris “NYChrisG” Gonzalez, King of Fighters XIII competitor Raymond “Romance” Navarrete, and Zangief masters Darryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis and Vance “Vangief” Wu, among others.

We would like to wish all those affected by these changes the best of luck as they move forward.

Well, when the only players you had are chris g and romance and the rest are slacking off doing nothing useful for the brand all day you gotta do something

  • RobertEspaillat

    EG CAChris G in 3, 2, 1. I Hope

    • GO4PRO

CAChris G? Man it just doesn’t have the same ring to it. I can’t wait to watch the west coast guys go through what the NY guys had to go through every week, haha.

      • Rodolfo Camarena

You have to say it like this: “Cali Chris G” 😉

      • RobertEspaillat

I dont think he will change his name lol

      • xanderglz

I find an even higher possibility for Chris to just go with Ray Ray, Flux and Alucard and align himself with CTRL. Call me a tabloid lover, but for what has been shown, I don’t see the guys at EG taking that much of a liking to Chris

      • ReddChief78

What take turns running a train on him every week, i think he will get a few Marvel wins tho but not a chance in hell in AE.

      • DiscoCokkroach

Wasn’t “NYChris G” a play on NYC? I think he’ll rep the nickname no matter where he goes. Gotta keep that East Coast pride!

  • BlackMasamune

    I’m only concerned about Romance.

    • ChatKnight

I second this. Romance better pack his bags and start learning Korean real fast.

    • yeah sucks especially when its so close to the cafe i.d. tournament.Hopefully he will be able to make it out.

  • John Doe

Team that sponsored FlashMetroid, Fanatiq and others that were only toxic and detrimental to the community as a whole is going under? Good riddance.

    • OKNO

      how is flashmetroid toxic?

      • pressstart

        Gets his blood boiling.

      • He didn’t say he was.
He said Flash, Fanatiq and OTHER toxic people.

  • TheBlackRabbit

CHrist G has bigger paycheck confirmed :0

  • Vintage

ChrisG won’t be short on suitors, that’s for sure.

    • Gethoff Mahfacebuk

Don’t be so sure, his attitude and especially the Twitter nonsense could keep some sponsors away from him. A lot of established e-sports teams would not take gay slurs lightly for example.

  • Diamonds

ChrisG found out from shoryukendotcom and not from PDP.
    Check out his twitter.

  • xanderglz

Fanatiq himself dropped his sponsor… to the ground, while in reality, it should have been the other way around #Kappa

  • JasinWalraven

was just about to buy another pad and headset combo from Afterglow, but forget that now

    • PJ

“Another” as in you bought a set already and liked the product. But now you won’t because they dropped 2 good players (1 with one of the worst attitudes in the FGC regardless of his skill) and a bunch of others who people have already mentioned did absolutely nothing to further their brand.
Yep, sure sounds like a good decision to me.

      • JasinWalraven

Well PJ, it is how capitalism works. Even tho I bought and use and enjoy my afterglow pad and headset, I disagree with their decision to eliminate their sponsorship of fighting game players and will no longer support them with my dollars. I honestly would have never even noticed they existed except I saw it on a stream. So, as capitalism allows me to do, I will instead purchase a product from some other company that does sponsor players. My money, my choice, fuck you 🙂

        • PJ

That would have sounded a lot better without the massive butthurt on the end there. I would think someone who was as bald as your avatar suggests would have had a little more maturity attached to their post. 😉

Will Chris G change his name to CA?

  • Gene Q.

Find out if Chris G will change his name after moving.

  • xanderglz

Either CTRL | NYChrisG or the return of EMP | FIREMAGE #MVGame

    • datagram

      You mean EG | CAChrisG

  • J.D SRK

Fuck Fanatiq, but I feel bad for Romance.
I wonder if he’ll find another sponsor. Chris G has a long list waiting I’m sure.

  • José Ramón Pepino Ojeda

Had a lot of time without watching these news. Curious… Why AGE merged with PDP in first place?

    • datagram

PDP created AGE. Afterglow is simply one of their brands.
