The hits just keep on coming for Lab Zero Games. Earlier today, news broke that CyberFront, current digital publisher of Skullgirls in Japan and future publisher of the Encore re-release, has been shut down by Kaga Electronics. In an official statement, the parent company cited issues with the publisher’s administration, which caused their recent efforts to reform the company after its acquisition to be too much of a problem to continue.

At this point in time, little information has been released as to how this will affect Encore’s availability on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan. Lab Zero’s CEO Peter “Ravidrath” Bartholow recently provided us with a quick statement from their end:

This came as a complete surprise to us, so we’re still investigating the situation and formulating a plan of attack. Lab Zero and Autumn games are committed to continuing and even expanding Skullgirls’ availability in Japan, and when we know more we’ll tell you.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as this story develops.

UPDATE – Lead programmer Mike “Mike Z” Zaimont has told Shoryuken that he has a special “thing” to show off at tomorrow night’s Salty Cupcakes, mentioning that they are always working on new ways to make Skullgirls fun. Be sure to tune in and check it out live on Eighty Sixed.
