Capcom Releases Footage of Elena, Hugo, Poison, and Rolento’s Supers and Ultras in Ultra Street Fighter IV

By on November 22, 2013 at 8:04 am

The folks over at Capcom-Unity just released four new videos that show off the Supers and Ultras available to new characters Elena, Hugo, Poison, and Rolento in Ultra Street Fighter IV. While their Supers from Street Fighter x Tekken have carried over, they have also been granted additional Supers and Ultras to better fit into the Street Fighter IV system.

Be aware these are all still going through a refinement process to make sure they fit perfectly in the Street Fighter IV art style and that they may look different in the final product.

Starting off, Capcom has brought Elena’s Super Art I (Spinning Beat) and Super Art III (Healing) over from Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike as her Super and Ultra 2, respectively.

Hugo will utilize Hammer Mountain (his Super Art III, also known as Hammer Frenzy) as his Super and Megaton Press (Super Art II) will be his Ultra 2.

Next, Poison’s Thunder Whip from Final Fight Revenge will be turned into her Super, and Poison Kiss from the same game will serve as her Ultra 2, but with an altered animation and brutal finisher.

And finally, Mine Sweeper (the A-ISM exclusive move from the Alpha series) will once again serve as Rolento’s Super, and the fan-favorite Take No Prisoners will be available as his Ultra 2.

Are you happy with the classic moves they’ve brought back to life? Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments below.

  • ouroborus

is rolento gonna have to choke a bitch?

    • Jalen

      Rolento Brady

    • Justin Archer

      i was hoping for knives

  • pootnannies

lol at the faces Hugo makes during his ultras. pretty cool camera effects on his U2

  • BulletToothTeddy

Why the fuck would they bring back Elena’s Healing super? Ugh.

    • R.D. Covenant

      For teh lulz.
I’m not usually a troll, but I see throw ->ultra
or her uppercut->fadc->ultra as great timer scams.

      • BulletToothTeddy

Healing is a serious troll move in 3rd Strike. Almost as bad as Gill’s Resurrection.

        • TiredOcean

Healing is nowhere near being a troll move in 3rd Strike. The setups for a full heal are limited and character specific, and Elena’s option to do Healing disappears if she wants to do any combo apart from crouching mp XX Scratch Wheel.

          • BulletToothTeddy

Any healing in any fighting game is a troll move.

          • DWU

            DP fadc into Healing <3

          • $18011339

Let’s see, who am I gonna believe: A. the guy who sounds like he knows how to play Elena, or B. the guy who sounds like he doesn’t play 3rd Strike even though he has a Dudley profile pic.

          • BulletToothTeddy

            Lol. This guy…

          • CapnWTF

I agree. when I used Elena, the only options I had were to do like a normal>scratch wheel>healing when they were launched. Or to do it while they’re stunned or just dicking around(which happens a surprising amount in 3S).

    • Ndebe

Ehh, if turns out to be useless then it wouldn’t be the first useless ultra.

  • Quan Chi

On Hugo’s Ultra 2, they should have the background spin before the slo mo effect (like Zangief’s Ultra 2) so it will look more epic. For now, everything kinda seems unpolished.

  • Cloak

    Still incomplete animations….. Hopefully

    • yeah I see what you mean but for the sake of time..ya know but lets hope not.

    • DWU

Still got half a year though, fingers crossed.

    • TheAverageGuyTAG

Don’t really see how the animations are incomplete. Only things missing are a few sound effects here and there.

      • Cloak

You really don’t notice the facial expressions and how clunky some of them look?

Look at Hugo’s to see what I mean.

        • TheAverageGuyTAG

  • ProfoundBadness

The Ultras have the same problem as Yun and Yang’s. They look really unpolished. The regular cast of vanilla, Super as well as Evil Ryu/Oni all have superb timing to their Ultra animations. The Ultra characters have their SFxT animations directly ripped and then secondary, much more unpolished, ones. I’m not impressed.

  • TheFrikking

Revive all the classic super arts was the right decission, well done Capcom

    • Magegg

      I don’t see Rolento’s knife hail…

      • Yeah well both of Rose’s Ultras were invented. Her super fireball was the only thing she retained. She never got her shadow super, or her rush forward super. I think a lot of characters, not just Alpha ones got screwed.

  • IFD|Humbag

    My god these look terrible.

    • Emezie Okorafor

      How do these “look terrible”?

For the most part, they’re either the exact same moves these characters have had for decades, or they’re taken from SFxT. No one complained about the animations in those cases, why should people randomly start complaining now?

      • I think some of them do look a bit incomplete maybe its just that they aren’t showing the finishing blast array of psychedelic sun shine but it definitely feels like something is missing especially with some of their ultra’s.

        • Emezie Okorafor

Actually, I think that’s a good point…when every other Ultra was introduced in this series, it was a KO with the fire explosion effect at the end.

They really should have done that here, too. I think most of these would actually look way more impressive that way…even if it’s just a mental thing.

      • MrAmbitious

they look terrible, they really do

      • Drago Umeharevich

i see you have a new project to astroturf 😀

      • Magegg

        Badly animated.
Elena’s Healing is not far from any PS1’s RPG “potion” effect.
Rolento and Poison’s Ultra IIs look incomplete in animation, they need some final blow.

Hugo’s Anti-air throw’s angles look like taken from Final Fight Revenge…

      • OrehRatiug

Some of them don’t feel as smooth as the current SF4 animations, and some of the camera work is a bit weird, but of course there is work to be done. The concepts themselves are good.

      • Devin Isom

To be fair SFxT added alot of effects where as these look kinda plain

    • Gun_Vanguard

I feel like these are “images of a work in progress”

  • Tenmakujinkyaku

Healing ultra, im maining Elena, unless the new character is boss.

  • Shalaska

    Poison’s super = Shoryureppa?!

    • ObbiObbi

Exactly what I immediately though of.

  • Manup21

Rolento’s Ultras look hard body lol.

  • Hailstorm

    Ouch, first a butt-whipping, then a kick to the nuts… poor Ryu…

  • fnshr

I’m trying to figure out how his Ultra 2 works, he wasn’t in reach of a normal grab, between him and Ryu (a Kara grab yeah) so I’m wondering what type of Ultra it is, Grab, Contact or Projectile – ish

    • Kingkarl12341

probably just a hit ultra, he had the same super in cvs and alpa and it was a hit super, looks kinda weird tho and he only has one soldier come and visit now lol instead of 5 or 6

    • Justin Archer

it’s a wire that he pulls from the ground. it hits low in sfalpha

      • fnshr

Well I can see obviously see that, nor is that still making light on my question, but okay thanks.

    • Sentsuizan

The move itself is usually projectile, but I think that the animations aren’t complete.

    • Gun_Vanguard

I think it might be a little like Seth’s Ultra 1, except it’ll only hit grounded opponents

  • SpiderDan

Take No Prisoners looks pretty soft (compared to Alpha) right now. Maybe the animation still needs cleanup.

    • Andy Lopez

I thought the same thing, but I’m just happy as hell that it’s in there. One of my favorite moves in all SF.

    • dopeedoo

I miss the sound effect when the wire snaps.

    • Wedge

Yeah it feels a little weak on the end, they need to add some visual and sound indicators to make it pop a little more. Still the coolest one there though.

    • TheAverageGuyTAG

I fail to see how watching a man flail and struggle while being suspended in the air by a wire wrapped tightly around his neck is considered “soft”.

      • Barlton Canks

It isn’t piano wire and you don’t actually see it wrapped around the neck.

        Rated T for Teen.

        • TheAverageGuyTAG

  • MrAmbitious

Mostly copy pastes and very boring. Change these ASAP Capcom.

  • Carlos Alvarez Bailleres

    Hugo’s U2 looks so unpolished…

  • Justin Archer

Elena’s Healing should have been her super. so she would have to choose between using meter or healing.

    • Emezie Okorafor

As it is now, she has to choose between doing damage U1 and healing herself U2. Or using both, but having both be really weak.

That’s not very different from your suggestion. Decisions still have to be made by the player.

Anyways, it’s much more interesting as an ultra, because she has the ability to keep healing herself if you play her well…something no other character can do. Also, I’m sure she’ll be a low stamina character (in SFxT she’s 900 health). She’ll also probably have to use meter to FADC her DP in order to make her healing safe.

In other words…healing probably won’t be as bad as people think.

      • Justin Archer

        I hope you’re right.

    • TS

As important as EX moves and FADC stuff is in the SF4s, you’d probably get more utility out of it as an ultra.

  • MrCabanas

Is it just me or do these attack animations seem slower than those from the AE cast?

  • Darklurkr23

Hey as long as something appears woot.

  • No.1 Important

I really wish they gave Elena a whole new ultra rather than just using Healing. It might not be that bad but I feel like they could of done something better than that.

    • Justin Archer

they had to stay true to the character.

      • $19298411

Spinning Beat could have been gotten rid of that super even in 3s is just…./facepalm

        • Justin Archer

your bad punctuation gave me cancer.

          • $19298411

Oh lordly lordly an English Nazi! I am sure you type 100% perfect on the internet each time. In fact I can see you capitalize the first letter of every word when starting a sentence just fine.

            Learn2notbeadick moron.

          • Justin Archer

You got so butt hurt from that. Don’t be so angry at a joke.

          • $19298411

Oh hey you learned to capitalize!

On a serious note, it was to point out the stupidity in your comment and how no one (not even you) uses formal grammatical or syntax rules on the internet. That’s like going to one of your friends when they are talking to you casually and telling them not to use slang since it isn’t proper, and if you do do that you probably don’t have a lot of friends, which would explain why you’re on the internet complaining about punctuation.

          • Justin Archer

it was a JOKE. If you had friends you’d probably know what one of those were. I don’t actually care about your punctuation.

          • $19298411

Get called out > Claim it was a joke

That OS. Yeah stay a kid.

          • Justin Archer

            You’re soooo butt hurt.

          • $19298411

If that’s all you can say you’ve already confirmed my point.

          • Justin Archer

            you need a hobby.

          • $19298411

says the pot to the kettle.

          • Eric Wiley

Boys, boys, please! Chill the fuck out.

  • Brendon Love

Healing being an ultra is certainly going to make it an interesting move, as it also, in theory gives you additional ultra meter, this may be enough to allow it to be deployed 3 times during a match (more if you get a big red focus) assuming she’s good enough at set ups that ensure it goes through.

Actually, would a crumple buy enough time by itself?

    • TS

I would guess based on the very limited footage I’ve seen that it’s some sort of denjin mechanic- hold the buttons to heal more, at a greater risk of getting hit out of the move. Then again, I’m not sure if it’s a full heal or if it just gives you gray life, like Gen’s TOD ultra in reverse.

  • peter her

call of duty cut n paste hope get out of a hole with this crap

  • Boabdil Perez

Y’all need to look at Killer Instinct’s training mode as a model for improving yours. Frame data accessible from in the game, the computer showing you how challenges should look when done properly, option to toggle hitbox view on and off.

  • Gojira Twit

Wait, so when they said Poison had something out of Final Fight Revenge they were talking about her boring super art? LOL

  • Khwadj

Can you make Hugo’s super even slower please ? It almost looks like half the speed a paralytic gran’ma’ could produde.

  • Roger Biggs

Given that rolento has nades, tripwires, and an army of sneaky stabby arseheads at his command, i really hoped capcom would reboot his style to fight like an ultra zoner like testament. nades like trees, wires like webs, and arseheads like exe beast. it was too much to hope for given how many people like him just the way he is 🙁

  • Simply Chun-believeable ^_~ ♥♥

Aww I was hoping that she got that move from Revenge that was pretty much a slideshow of her sexy-ness.

Also her U2 being a counter disappoints me as well, it could also have more to it. :/ Not good with those types of moves, but I KNOW FOR A FACT that it will feel amazing to end a match with it!! Hmm…>:-)

  • I miss the sound effect when the wire snaps…

  • k.b.a.

can’t wait until these are all done and fully polished. looks a little bit rough around the edges so far but great work. actually seeing it puts into perspective how hard capcom is working on this thing
