Earlier today, Namco Bandai dropped some new information regarding another guest character that will be returning to their upcoming HD rerelease of Soulcalibur II. Spawn, the Todd McFarlane character that was exclusive to the original’s Xbox release, will be included in the roster alongside Tekken’s Heihachi Mishima.

A handful of new screenshots and the full press release has been included below.

With this news, only the Gamecube’s exclusive character (Link) remains up in the air. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information becomes available, though it remains highly unlikely that Nintendo will allow their character to appear on these consoles.

Soulcalibur II HD Online is set to release on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live this fall.

ok, so we’ve actually hold up the idea that Link will never gonna appear in this game’s re-release, right? So the comment section won’t get filled with people asking for him… right??

    • k.b.a.

      nah homie. #GangGreen

      • PlayDoh003

Nah, we’re talking Nintendo here… Link on Xbox360 and PS3?!! Not gonna happen.

    • maathimself

What if they put Link’s moveset on a different character like Charade or Inferno?

      • $18011339

Or they just renamed him something, changed his colors and face. Maybe if they gave him rasta hat and accent.

      • They should have a MOD contest. I’m sure someone would crank out a pretty awesome replacement.

      • Gethoff Mahfacebuk

Wouldn’t be the same, people would just insist that he’s not the same and that they were the best with the REAL Link, after getting viciously exposed and having everything they’ve ever known about SC2 called into question online.

    Oh god. Want Necrid.

    • Tocool

I am pretty sure he is in regardless. They said the ps2 version at first and Necrid was in every single version.

    • jlb85

This has got to mean that he is back. A character so stupid, so poorly designed and stupid looking, that he is an absolute masterpiece. This has got to mean he is back too.

      • Jerrod Branson

Necrid’s practically already there, since just about everything points to it being a port of the console versions, and Necrid was on every console. And both Spawn and Necrid are Todd McFarlane characters.

        • Nael

I don’t know why people thought Necrid wasn’t going to be in in the first place. Aside form being in all three versions, Namco also owned the rights to the character, not Todd McFarlane.

  • Tocool

Reminds me of an old community joke.

“Why ban Necrid? Because fuck him that’s why.

  • Simply Chun-believeable ^_~ ♥♥

Soul Calibur games were always so pretty. *__*

  • Rob

Ok, I was already going to get this, but this absolutely makes it a DONE DEAL. I owned both a gamecube and ps2 back in the day and I had copies for each console so I could play as Link/ Heihachi…. Spawn being the only one I never tried out… Good job Namco, youve got me on board =)

Fun story, back in the SCII Xbox days, my friend (who loves FG’s but is terribad at them) came over and wanted to play. So I picked Spawn and we sat in Vs. mode for a while, after a while of him ‘not winning’ I got tired, laid back on my bed and shut my eyes (he was in front on the floor). I started spamming safe moves and bnb’s with my eyes closed, and we went about 10 more rounds (of which I won all of them) before he turned around to say something and was like “DUDE WTF, ARE YOU EVEN LOOKING AT THE SCREEN?!”

He threw down the controller, and left the room… then we went to Carl’s Jr. and I got a western bacon cheeseburger and a Dr. Pepper.

    #CoolStoryBro

    • Yo! I used to love the western bacon cheeseburger(probably doesn’t even taste the same anymore)….and that is kind of messed up man but I guess he was determined to win at least one game lol.

    • Gethoff Mahfacebuk

Even back then, people’s problem solving skills weren’t up to par. It’s even worse now with CoD raised gamers, but at least it’s not a new problem.

      • SavingPrincess

        … wuthuh?

    • martin rush

a mark of a true martial artist is to fight your opponant in the dark..

      • SavingPrincess

… and then take your opponent out for a burger.

    • Patricia Ophelia Cross

…brought to you by Carl’s Jr

  • samirerre

    wheres necrid?

  • Cat Astrophy

Is this going to come with that badass arcade mode where you could declare an allegiance and win matches to rank up your team?

  • Joey Lee

Even though I’m a little bit disappointed Link is most likely not going to appear, I’m just happy to start playing arguably the best SC game in the series.

  • Chooch

I actually wasn’t expecting Spawn. Only Heihachi. Pretty cool.

    • Cat Astrophy

I wouldn’t be surprised if that guy was going to get rebooted in the movies.

      • I hope too
or at least a decent beat them all/hack and slash game

  • The most balanced soulcalibur, i still play it on the original xbox 🙂
and spawn is my fav character, I only (don’t dislike) necrid because he’s todd mc farlane’s creation 🙂
    spawn is cool
