Arc System Works President Hints at 2014 Release for Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, First Location Test Planned for August

Ever since they released the first amazing trailer at Arc Revo a few months back, many have been eagerly awaiting news regarding Arc System Works’ upcoming fighter, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-.  While Arc has yet to give exact details on its release, comments made by president Minoru Kidooka seem to hint at a 2014 release for the game. During an interview with Famitsu (translated by Polygon), Kidooka had this to say on their immediate plans for the future:

It’s going to be all about BlazBlue from the autumn forward, and hopefully we can keep that energy going among gamers for the new Guilty Gear coming next year. [Guilty Gear director Daisuke] Ishiwatari is really working hard to push beyond the skills they’ve cultivated over the past 15 years and express the game in a new way. It’s something that looks like 2D graphics; 3D visuals that won’t disappoint fans, and it’s something I hope you look forward to.

The company will be focusing on BlazBlue throughout the fall with the release of BlazBlue: Chronophantasma this October alongside a brand new anime series. After that, however, it seems they’re hoping to carry that momentum into a possible 2014 release for the next Guilty Gear title. Of course, this isn’t an official release announcement, and there’s still the question of whether or not it refers to the likely next generation console release or if that target is for arcades only.

The rest of the article has Kidooka talking about how they were able to start the company back in 1988, why they continue to focus on 2D fighting games and more. Make sure to read the entire translated interview over at Polygon.

Additionally, Arc System Works will be conducting the first location test for Guilty Gear Xrd at the fourth floor of the Sega Akihabara Building 1 in Tokyo on August 9. Series director Daisuke Ishiwatari and Pachi will be on-site from 10:00 AM to to 10:30 AM to celebrate the opening. The location test will continue until August 12.

This is sure to provide some great information on this fairly mysterious title, so stay tuned! In the meantime, feel free to check out a couple of new images of the game and its HUD below.
