Namco Bandai Trademarks Soulcalibur: Lost Swords

By on July 18, 2013 at 10:45 am

Here’s some interesting news for Soulcalibur players: Namco Bandai Games recently filed a trademark for Soulcalibur: Lost Swords in North America. The series’ last game, Soulcalibur V, was released in early 2012 and saw a decent amount of tournament play, even appearing at Evo that year.

Whether or not this new game is an expansion to that title or a sequel is as of yet unknown. Other unnumbered entries in the series have either been portable versions or spin-offs (e.g. Broken Destiny, Legends), so it should be interesting to see what Namco Bandai has in store. They are set to host a panel this Friday at San Diego Comic-Con, meaning we may hear more about this title as early as tomorrow. Stay tuned!

When not writing for Shoryuken's front page, D3v spends part of his time running tournaments in the Philippines, including the country's biggest fighting game event, Manila Cup.

    sounds like a Vita title.

  • AriesWarlock

Hopefully, an expansion with Zasalamel and Setsuka.

      Don’t forget Talim and Yun-seong!

        And Amy.

        Fuck the haters.

      and everyone else from SC4

could be a free 2 play Soul Calibur just like Tekken Revoltuion

    • Gojira Twit

I kind of hope not, but you’re probably right. The fact that this is being filed now, after the success of Tekken Revolution, is probably not a coincidence.

other companies are saying they wanna do it as well. ASW said they wanted to do it but Namco beat them to the punch, and Tecmo announced their free model of DOA5U before Tekken Revolution.

A Soul Calibur for Vita telling about those 17 years with Taki, Cassandra, Zasalamel and more classics would be perfect.

  • Pooh Hardy

    lost swords?

as in the characters who were dropped from SCV?

either this is a vita/PC game or a extended version of SCV with extra features and characters

  • Jakub Wieczorkowski

Vita game would make me happy beyond limits, but we’ll see.

  • Kaihedgie

How unsettling that this sounds like an iOS title

  • Please let it be an extension! There are already stories and DLC items we never got like Viola’s veil which I really needed for one of my characters! Even if it’s that one rumored 3DS port I’ll gladly take it! I know it won’t be any of these though.

It’d better not be another portable-only game like Broken Destiny! That would be the epitome of stoopid.

That’s like making USF4 for Vita only — the ultimate version of a fighting game never to be seen in tournament play

    • Sabin1936

I bet it will be a Vita port of SCV 😐

But if it had an expanded story mode (according to the director, the original story mode was 25% of what it was originally intended to be in planning) I would pay a million dollars for it.

Please don’t be a free to play game.

I’m probably in the minority but I’d like them to bring back the instant kill moves from IV, it was a challenge to meet the requirements to do them but they were very cool.

  • jlb85

I was kinda hoping maybe, just maybe that we’d finally see Tekken X Street Fighter. But a new Soul Calibur would be pretty sweet.

  • TwilightInZero

F2P title, CaS only. Calling it.
