IPW/TeamSpooky to Stream Evo 2013. Here’s the Schedule!

By on July 8, 2013 at 2:24 pm

Evo is this week, and we’re happy to have the IPlayWinner and TeamSpooky tag team back to stream all the action. This Evo is the biggest yet in terms of both attendance and number of tournament games, so it’s only fitting that we make this our biggest stream yet!

Three Gameplay Streams on Twitch.tv

We will be broadcasting from three streams this year, and every stream will be devoted to 100% tournament matches. On Friday and Saturday we will stream on Twitch channels srkevo1, srkevo2, and srkevo3. You can find a full stream schedule at the end of this post.

$12 PPV Ticket to Fund the Evo Scholarship

The stream will have a premium ticket available, with 100% of the proceeds going to fund the Evo 2013 college scholarship. This year we’re partnering with the NYU Game Center to grant scholarships to deserving members of the fighting game scene who need financial assistance to attend the program. You can find out more about the program here.

Stream Schedule

Without further ado, here’s the schedule for all three streams. Click the image for a larger version.

  • Where’s the price for the PPV ?

  • Graham Shryock

Last I heard, Iron Galaxy will also be streaming all the Divekick action for all three days including their side-tournament with $5,000 Pot Bonus.
    Their link is http://www.twitch.tv/irongalaxy

  • Chase Flowers

    Is this PST?

  • Youone

    • Ricardo Medero

they always had their own stream because the other comminutied don’t want nothing to do with their games and their multiple patches in a month

      • Caleb Scottie Spicer

shut the hell up,no one got severely patch but scorpion.ppl act like every character got major changes or something

        • Cat Astrophy

down+medium change is big and universal

          • Caleb Scottie Spicer

oh yea,i guess that was a big change but that needed to happen cause most characters D2 was useless

    • Kloakenstein

      But at what cost?

    • Michael Gacillos O’Hair

Tears made of quarters and dimes.

  • Rahavic

    SFxT lmao!

  • Jake Long

These times are Pacific. Add 3 hours for the East Coast and 7 hours for GMT.

  • Makr0ss

Skullgirls Pools will start Friday July 12th at 3PM.

    • 1338h4x

      What channel?

      • Makr0ss

Probably the regular channel: twitch.tv/eightysixed the same that they use for Salty Cupakes

  • FrenchPingu

Damn the chat is super expensive.
No pools for TTT2, and SFxT finals on the third streams, that’s tough.

  • Ett

Wow only stream P4A finals ? yet MK9 get a stream for the day…..

  • Chris |Eshi| Manning

there’s like 6 ridiculously strong japanese players coming for P4U and ONLY finals are getting streamed? seriously?

  • Tief_Blau

Damn, no stream time for pools in Tekken, P4A, or SFxT? It wouldn’t have killed them to give those games a block of stream time that AE or Marvel already have :/

    • TheRealistDMac

SFxT is pretty much AE Tag Tournament (although the patch admittedly made it something a bit more unique and fixed the more glaring issues), but yea Tekken and P4A deserve more than 2 hour blocks for the finals.

  • Shardzy

I took off work Friday to follow Persona, which multiple Japanese
players are attending Evo primarily to compete in amongst the ~400
participants. I’ve attended Evo 4 times and subscribed to the stream
last year when I couldn’t make it. If P4A only being streamed for top 8
with no stream coverage before that is for real, I guess I won’t be giving Evo a
    cent this year.

    • Carlos Alberto Balseiro Mayi

      I can’t agree more.

    • Cat Astrophy

I doubt they’re really feeling the burn. P4A is a great game but it’s still a niche title.

      • Shardzy

Yeah, it is what it is. On the bright side, several people have already stepped up to provide side streams and the Evo staff’s been helpful & responsive in working with them.

  • RomanceHD

What the, only two hours of Tekken? But I wanted to watch JDCR body people com’on!

    • Cat Astrophy

And on a Friday afternoon where a lot of would-be streamers could be working. Kind of pisses me off.

  • chaoslimits

Seems like I won’t be watching very much of EVO this year 🙁
Hopefully, the number of people whose games aren’t getting comparative stream time will be substantial enough to get their attention.
    Either way go EVO!

  • xeleion

NetherRealm games have their own stream. They have that many entrants?

    • windsagio

Injustice did really well (4th I think, after smash), MK bleh.

  • Randall Tyree Mandersohn

That Melee coverage is solid, plus VGBC streaming pools as well. Awesome. Thank you guys for accommodating our community and letting us be apart of something this big! 700 entrants 12 years after the games release still blows my mind and shows we’ll be around for a long long time. Looking forward to the entirety of Evo and watching some hype matches of all these different games across the board. The FGC knows how to get hype. EVOOOOOOOOO

  • godfist314

PPV is a one time fee of $12. You can find the purcase? page here

I guess I’ll throw in a positive comment or two. 3 streams is pretty awesome. HD quality for $12 is a great deal, but I’m afraid my ISP or some other layer in the streaming process doesn’t function as I would have hoped after all the time and money I spent upgrading hardware and tweaking windows xp. That’s ok though because there WILL BE ARCHIVES OF ALL STREAMS as shown on that Twitch page IF you pay $12. I say it’s bloody awesome compared to watching very watered down youtube replays a week after the tournament is over. (the watered down part has nothing to do with Evo producers/staff/etc. It’s youtube being so mediocre :/)

    • Cat Astrophy

It might be a great deal assuming the streams actually work well. I’ve watched too many EVO streams where stuff craps out, including during grand finals.

  • windsagio

For those complaining, I’m guessing the NRS streams are the reward for having an active vibrant competitive community. Not that the others are dead of course, but the level of activity and engagement pays off.

As a bonus, I’m guessing they’ll likely have more general appeal than P4 or TTT (due to higher pop culture saturation).

    • Emtac

I think it had more to do with how the NRS community asked “hey if we bring our own equipment and do all the work can we stream our game all day?”

      • Tony Cannon

Except that’s not what actually happened.

    • Doesn’t hurt that NRS is under the Warner Bros. umbrella also 😉 plenty of honey flowing from that pot.

      • windsagio

just for the record, you’re saying there’s payola involved?

  • ReddChief78

Why is Smash not first and KOF after that really slows sown the hype of things oh wait that’s break time for launch nice thinking SRK were gonna need that thx

  • freezestar

Can chat on twitch be free for EVO? That part seems a bit too much.

  • vastreammonster

What is included in the 12$ PPV ticket?

  • so TTT2 got more entrants than MK9, but MK9 gets streamed pools, but we only see Top 8 for Tekken? Oh boy.

  • Ragebeast

wow. King of fighters so early this year? Hope people can keep the hype up

  • wes yoshida

KOF was probably the hypest game last year, and their finals are going to happen when the place won’t be even half-full? That’s disrespectful.

    • Cat Astrophy

It wasn’t even half-full in the past because of the garbage that was hosted at the time (remember Melty Blood?). If KoF is good it will bring people. You can NEVER hope, regardless of how good the matches actually were to beat either UMvC3 or SFIVAE2012 or any company backed exhibitions and announcements. That leaves you with the obvious “sleep-in” window during the morning/early afternoon.

edit: lol oh god the entire doujin fighter fanbase has downvoted me

      • wes yoshida

KOF was good already, last year. It should be enough to get a little more of respect. But I see your point, if Atlus or SNK Playmore isn’t backing this up (like they should) there’s no reason KOF should be bumped over Netherrealm or Capcom games.

        • Its a shame but the fact is KOF doesn’t have the entrants it needs to garner the respect(which is well deserved) and it shows as both injustice and smbm are both getting the support. Maybe NRS did buy their way into an extra slot but none the less, they got their supporters. With Atlus in money troubles, there was no way you were going to see any support from their camp.

It’s a damn shame because it was hype last year I know it will be back next year but in what capacity is definitely up in the air. I hope SNK is gearing up for something spectacular for 2015.

          • Kr1spness

Kind of off topic but Nintendo is currently trying to get Atlus out of trouble with Shin Megami promotions and making Shin Megami x Fire Emblem. Makes me laugh that stream 3 is basically the smash and kof stream and they’re back to back on sunday.

  • 1338h4x

MK9 has the least entrants of any game but gets six times the stream time compared to TTT2 or P4A. And NRS is basically getting their own channel too. Is there any doubt left that NRS bribed Mr. Wizard for that ninth slot? It rightfully belongs to Skullgirls, dammit.

  • Cat Astrophy

ROFL @ Smash getting a finals over TTT2 on Sunday

    • Corey

i was going to say that too but i think its because it was chosen by the people. they wanna show repect to the voters i guess

      • Kr1spness

Well…it also has more than double the entrants and had to get in with money, instead of getting in for free and edging out mk9 entrants.

      • Cat Astrophy

Is there a link to show Injustice beating Tekken at a Sunday slot by public vote?

  • BlackMasamune

Last Year’s hypest Grand Finals moved to 10AM? Makes sense.

    • windsagio

Hype is in the eye of the beholder.

      • BlackMasamune

        90K ain’t bad.

        • windsagio

Which ties perfectly into my personal interpretation~

          KOF was ‘stream hype’.

    • Cat Astrophy

It was the hypest GF but it’s not the hypest game. No evidence that it will be the hypest GF again. If it continues then maybe you’ll see it bumped up next year.

      • BlackMasamune

I doubt a lot of games are going to be back next year.

        • I think it all depends on how things run this year and how people feel about it..I mean traditionally finals ran completely on Sunday so this will really gauge how many games will be back for next year.

I kind of like the thought of them showcasing finals both saturday and sunday but popularity makes it so that the “hypest” games take the main stage in the later hours.

  • darkdragon88

I have nothing against the Evo staff and their planning but I don’t know if they can jam pack Sunday with all that stuff.

    • Kr1spness

They really should start the day off with Killer Instinct.

  • godfist314

Evo getting paid to stream company x’s game over another game? Nonsense. You guys do realize that Evo isn’t a for-profit event right?

    • Cat Astrophy

No but mo money = mo better productions next year.

    • windsagio

It’s because there can’t be any honest, rational reason their favorite game isn’t getting the attention it so clearly deserves!

      • Nope, not when company juggernauts get involved. You can almost guarantee honesty becomes some what convoluted when things get bigger..even when some believe in their heart of hearts they had the best intentions.

  • CDiggity

Heh…they really think they can run a KoF or Melee top 8 in 2 hours or less. Good luck with that.

    • Kr1spness

You’d like to start injustice at 2? We’d like to end at 6.

  • Titus Ares

Wait, so tbere will be a free stream, but for 12 doll hairs you can watch it in glorious HD and have access to the archives? What’s the quality going to be like for the free stream, 240? Iphone high?

Anyway, thanks to sp00ky and ipw for streaming. I know we act spoiled, but this honestly is the next best thing to being there, and sadly, I can’t watch the stream from ballroom b because plans fell tbrough =(. And I really wa ted my evo shirt tbis year too.

    • windsagio

Pay also lets you comment presumably, that’s how it was last year.

  • RazingPhoenix

Somebody needs to record some pools matches for Tekken. It can end up being VCR quality in the end. Doesn’t matter a long as we see the matches! And I’ve given the game dirt in the past, but I hope xTekken fans get some recorded matches too.

  • Corey

how can a game that was not going to be in the tournament get in the 3rd main event… and wow, i cannot believe SSF4 as final game. thats great! maybe they know chris will win UMVC3 and dont wanna end it on a downer, cause lets be honest… morrigan -_-

    • Eder García

as long as Daigo keeps playing SSF4, SSF4 will remain main event imo

    • windsagio

AE did get the highest turnout, weirdly enough.

  • the7k

Wow, really? That’s all you are gonna show for SFxT?

Well, I’ll be watching KOFXIII beforehand so I guess it doesn’t really affect me, but I really hope someone else records the matches before finals. After Final Round 16, I have high hopes that SFxT might have some interesting matches.

I guess I should be thankful that KOFXIII will be that early in the morning, maybe I’ll get to watch all of it before I have to go into work.

  • ReoAyanami

100% tournament matches. So, is that what those special presentations are going to be as well?

  • Los Illuminados

heh…while i do not like the schedule for KOF on Sunday. i do look at it in the bright side of this. my friends and i can get HYPE, make some noise, lose our voices, in the KOF finals, and then leave the EVO event. we can enjoy the rest of the day in Las Vegas with some sexy females! ビーバ KOF y it’s Vegas Baby!!!

    P.S. this is what happen.

    • Tenmakujinkyaku

  • Brandon

whats the deal with the umvc3 times for both streams are they gonna be different or recaps because one is saying quarter finals and the others are just pools plus they have two semi-final streams
