Free-to-Play Tekken Revolution Heading to PlayStation Network on June 11

By on June 8, 2013 at 11:02 pm

Hot on the heels of Tecmo Koei’s Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters announcement, Namco Bandai revealed earlier today that they will also be jumping into the free-to-play market with a new title dubbed Tekken Revolution. The trailer below showcases a handful of series regulars that will supposedly comprise the playable cast as well as a quick look at what appears to be some sort of stat system that allows players to customize various gameplay aspects of their favorite fighters.

Tekken Revolution will be available exclusively on PlayStation Network starting June 11 in North America and June 12 in Asia and Europe. Very little else is known about the title at the moment, but all of our questions should be answered soon thanks to the closeness of the release date. For now, feel free to let us know what you think of this move in the comments below.

    damn! thanks harada!

  • Gynoid

Is this what they meant by new game?

    • theSN3S

Most likely. But I think its some sort of experiment in my opinion. An alternative to just relying on arcade players. Especially since we don’t do the whole arcade scene anymore here in America….sadly. :/

      • ThePoopTickler

Something tells me that this is all in preparation for Tekken X Street Fighter.

  • Louis Lam

    Aesthetically looks really damn good.

  • Oniros

Cool. Maybe I’ll finally get my friends to play fighting games with me!

    • Justin Archer

I know how you feel. The only thing my friends play is COD and NHL.

  • Eirik Bager Sundmark

Gah, why only PSN? I don’t have a PS3, and neither do any of my friends. 🙁

  • Devin Isom

Microsoft needs to level the hell up.

  • free-to-play? RPG mechanics? All we need now is the cash shop.

    • Garrett Jones

You can buy coins which allow you to get more play time, much like Zynga games on FaceBook.

  • gigantor21

Hmm…the people saying in the YT comments that it may be a test run for the TxSF engine might be on to something.

  • Pooh Hardy

    they made asuka cute….

  • Rolan Alcantara

I’m calling it now, this will Namco’s attempt at a fighting game “MMO” with “customizable” character stats that gets access to new moves over the course of time. If the game is successful enough, (successful meaning a bunch of people buy items and “boosters” from the store) – this could be the last Tekken (for a while) meaning the game will constantly be updated with new moves, items, and characters every year or so with regular balance tweaks in between (just like an MMO).

    • Steven Hunt

So long as they introduce new characters, and potentially some semblance of a story, I’m game.

    • Rahavic

You know this is a PS3 title right? This version of the game will not be updated as we move on to the next gen consoles and…..calm down.

      • Rolan Alcantara

Its on PSN. Its a digital release, so I’m not really sure what you’re trying to say here. Unless PSN will not support the PS4.

        • A digital release on PS3 is still a PS3 game. There’s been a rumor that PS4 will not be backwards-compatible, which means PS3 games – downloadable or otherwise – won’t work on it. That’s where things stand right now, until Sony says otherwise.

  • HombreGranJefe

As a 360 only owner, We are getting absolutely bodied by Sony.

    • Pooh Hardy

      tough titty
no one’s stopping you from getting a ps3

  • Hol_Up

I bet if Capcom did this they’d be getting tons of hate.

    • CptPokerface

But why even bring up Capcom when no one else has thus far?

  • lol it must really suck to be a xbox fan right now

    • windsagio

More ‘lol gaming news story and all somebody can think of is multiple console wars posts’.

      • No war post bro,I’m just stating the facts.

        • Remster

And you proceed to in your next post?

  • next gen fighting games will be destroyed by the xbox one’s restrictions. imagine running a tourney with a time bomb

    • Hol_Up

imagine paying for base characters because fighting game devs decide free to pay is the future? Oh wait…

  • Hey_Sim

Fuck you Capcom! You should’ve made this game! Arghhh!

  • Cat Astrophy

Hmm League of Legends but a fighting game…sounds good tbh

  • Khinh Phu

please have the triple punch charge move from tekken 4 Jin i like the Jin in that edition. Put as extra Old JIN kazama for tekken revolution

  • GammaWolf

Move in the right direction for fighting games.

Do what League of legends does and allow people to unlock characters through regular play or paying cash as a shortcut. Customizable stats is like rune-pages and allows players to add some personal flair to their character.

Fighting games have much shorter matches and rely on individual skill which is how they can become more popular than MOBAs. LoL has 40 minute games and forces you to play with retards and trolls half the time which are major drawbacks.
