Earlier this morning, Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios announced that their upcoming DC Comics fighter, Injustice: Gods Among Us, will offer a season pass for additional content on launch day. Much like similar bundles in other titles, the Injustice season pass will give players access to four additional characters as they are released for the price of three. Injustice: Gods Among Us’ season pass will be made available for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 starting April 16 for $14.99 and 1200 MPS, respectively. Information regarding the release of the downloadable characters or their availability for the Wii U version have yet to be divulged, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as soon as those details come to light.

Four Characters for the Price of Three………hehehe….The hell with that!!
The game hasn’t even released yet and we have to pay extra money for more characters!!?

And whats with that great sale? Four Characters for the Price of Three? That means the characters must be really expensive or else that would be pointless.

    • NyuBomber

Well, it’s in the release that the Season Pass will be $15/ equivalent in Microsoft Funbucks, so you’re looking at about $5 per character if you get them all for the price of three. Though if it’s including three skins, that price point per character may be lower.

I’ll probably get it down the line, but not at launch, because while Aquaman looks awesome, I don’t anticipate focusing on him, Deathstroke, or WW for play.

    • pandemlc

Characters won’t come out for awhile.

  • SHOGUNDo

Swamp Thing, Martian Manhunter, Zatanna and Lobo please. Brainiac, Blue Beetle, or Booster Gold would be cool too.

    • Ryan D. Oliver

I will bet money General Zod will be one of them to coincide with “Man of Steel’s” release.

  • Ninebreaker (HurtboxTV)

yup cause this is what you want to do, have planned fighters that should be in the game from the start and make sure that there is a season pass that way you have to pay more to play online. Idiots.

    • Pombar

If they put this in the original game they’d have to delay the game for months and make 0 extra profit for continuing to work (with fully paid staff) on the game for that extra time. Why would anyone do that?
In order to make sure the DLC doesn’t take a year to come out, they have to start making it as soon as the game goes gold (weeks before release, if not months) – so yeah, of course we’re going to see them tease DLC before launch.

      So much entitlement!

      • $35897352

Do yourself a favor and stop being a fanboy.

        • Pombar

I’m not even going to buy this game. I couldn’t care less about DC, and MK9 just didn’t click with me.
But business is business, and extra months of work hours post-launch aren’t free – devs aren’t volunteers, and are paid badly enough as-is – so why should the fruits of that labour have to be free?

          • $35897352

The first problem is that you think they will start making the DLC “after” they finished the initial game, that is false. the second problem is that you think the developers will be paid more, that is false because they get a fix salary, they will pay more if they work more time but not according to the price of the DLC, it could be $10 or $2 per character and the poor developers will be paid the same. What they really do “after” the release is trying to balance the game according to fans feedback, but that is all.

      • Ninebreaker (HurtboxTV)

Not entitlement at all, Harada from Tekken made it a point to say that a fighter should include the important things like characters and stages. Planning 4 characters before the games even out and making it DLC is stupid. I bet you they’re done and were done for a while and they just decided to put them aside for DLC like capcom did with SFxT. And when it comes to games I want to feel like I got my monies worth. The only way I can see this as perfectly fine, is if they started development on these characters after the development cycle for the game was already finished. That’s when you start working on addons to your game. Not during your games development cycle.

It has nothing to do with entitlement, in the end we are the consumer and cry and bitch all you want. The consumer is always right, I don’t like what they do, or their product I’ll take my money elsewhere.

        • jpradarojo

“we are the consumer, the consumer is always right”

Pombar and the ones who like this dlc are customers too, dumbass

    • nutzilla13

You don’t have to pay to play online. This is just for DLC, not online access. Idiot.

      • Ninebreaker (HurtboxTV)

are you stupid? I meant that since it’s a season pass if you buy it used they’ll make you pay for an online pass. You asshole, go fuck yourself.

        • nutzilla13

No. You are still wrong. You can still play online even if you buy it used, you just won’t be able to use the DLC characters since you did not buy them. This isn’t EA bro, this is NetherRealm.

  • Pol Subanajouy

      • $35897352

what about you stop being a fanboy?

  • windsagio

Hey guys, this is how real DLC works.

The only right way to do it is to have it planned and started before release, otherwise you ‘ll miss the time period when people are most likely to buy.

It’s just a part of the development cycle now, that’s how the business is.

    • KubikiriTurkojin

thats how retards think. they make the game and dont release characters that could have already been in the game just so can they can add them later and ask more money for characters that could have been in the game on release.

this isnt done for the fans, its done for that quick extra buck that a lot of retard would probably buy. especially those in the fgc.

      • windsagio

amazingly, NRS is a business not a ‘hey lets give people everything they want for free’ club.

Nobody’s forcing anybody to buy anything, and I trust people to be able to decide whether something is worth the money on their own.

This stuff is just like the “OMG Evo passes should be free!!!!!” guys… and just as sad.

    • $35897352

And the problem is that fanboys accept this idea as “common sense” and give their money without complaints. But you know, you could choose not to be a sheep.

I like hearing people bitch about this because I don’t want it to become the de facto game launch process. But thanks for establishing how much better you are than the rest of Shoryuken the instant this article gets posted. Attention much?

    • Joey T Medina

This is more like a Call of Duty Season Pass where you buy future map packs in a bundle at release. They’re probably not even close to finishing the packs yet but have probably conceptualized them already.

Packs include costumes, 1 new character, and possible new missions for the Star Labs tower. People are going to complain because this looks like they are doing exactly what Capcom does, but it’s not same.

  • Max Cancel

Best to get this trash in sooner then later I guess. Trash to go with your trashy game maybe down the road they can patch in a decent engine.

    • samael789

Oh please do go suck a goat. You are a fart stain on the face of the FGC.

  • Connor Phoenix

Dunno why people would complain about this. This is just how video games are nowadays. All DLC is made and ready before the game comes out, we just have to deal with it. Not really interested in any of the 3 skins but I’ll be getting all the DLC characters so I’ll get this still. 1200 points is pretty decent though considering a lot of season passes for games are 2400. Each character is 400 points each if you buy them separately.

  • JasonWalraven

only 4 characters for $15? Didn’t the other company dish out 12 characters for $20?

    • powerprotoman

difrence being those 12 should have been free these 4 havent even been made

    • Magegg

Wait fo the “Komplete Edition”, then.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

      Yup Capcom did

    • Trollolo You

Weren’t Cashcoms characters already finished and just waited on the disc to get released?
NRS in fact just started working on the DLC characters and the season pass offers you 4 characters for the price of 3 and skin packs.
Producing new characters does cost money as Skullgirls prove it.

      • JasonWalraven

what does it matter if the characters are produced before or after release? the production costs are the same. NRS charges $3.75 per character. The other guys charged $1.67

      • KubikiriTurkojin

these are 3d characters, and very generic looking ones at that. they cost jack shit.

    • TheAverageGuyTAG

Yes, but those 12 characters were all finished and on the disc at launch.

      • JasonWalraven

how does that affect production costs?

        • TheAverageGuyTAG

I didn’t say that it affects production costs. However, considering how relatively finished or near-finished the characters were (I think when they were actually released, they had some balancing done) when the game launched, it can be inferred that those characters were included in the initial game’s budget as opposed to an external DLC budget like what is probably the case with the Injustice DLC characters (assuming that they’re not going to pull the same schtick that Capcom did). What I’m saying is that Capcom is charging 20 bucks for characters that were, if not completely finished, largely finished, could have easily been shipped with the base game for no extra charge, but was instead held back to make a quick buck.

Also, as MortalKomment said before, you’re forced to buy a whole pack of characters to get your hands on the character(s) you want, even if you don’t want the others. So if you want only, say, Elena and Bryan, guess what? You’ve gotta pay 20 bucks.

    • http://twitter.com/MortalKomment MortalKomment

Also, you have the option of buying Injustice’s DLC character individually if you don’t care about the other three.

  • KubikiriTurkojin

fuck this game, its characters, th seasosonpass and their dlc.

  • gaftra

There’s a reason video games have stayed $60 for the last 7 years while everything about them keeps getting more expensive.

  • Trollolo You

People need to realize that this is not bad business.
You can buy Injustice for 50$ and it will offer you more content than all the other fighting games (excluding Mortal Kombat 9) out there will offer you combined.

The 4 additional characters which you will get for each 375 microsoft points will be developed after the release of the game.
One of the devs on TYM stated that they just started working on the first DLC character.

While you have companies like Cashcom, where they lock 12 characters on the disc and wait and wait and then sell you the stuff separately. If you justify that, but don’t see that NRS is doing a much better job when it comes to treating their customers with respect and offering them the DLC the way it should be done, then you’re one stupid, helpless fuck.

    • $35897352

NRS and Cashcom do the same, the difference is that the guys at NRS aren’t dat rotters as to offer the content on disk, they just wait few months and release it.

    • Ninebreaker (HurtboxTV)

I’m sorry this and MK9 have more content than most fighters? Tekken and SoulCalibur want to have a word with you on that. Harada friggen made a crapton of extra characters for Tag 2 that they could have easily made paid DLC. He didn’t, he made what? 8 or so characters free? with a big customization mode, Tekken tunes, and a bunch of features? Or maybe SCV with it’s really good character creator and I would say a good cast of characters. Yes Capcom sucks when it comes to giving out content, but in the end their fighters are legendary and for the most part really well done. They’re just assholes when it comes to DLC and keeping stuff from us.

  • Kaihedgie

It’s too much to ask for Terry McGinnis or Inque, so Clayface will have to do >:

  • Joel

This generation believes they deserve everything for free. Games are not finished right before their release date. As a matter of fact this game is most likely finished as of now. From day one fighting games always have characters dropped because there wasn’t time to include them in it. Because of how DLC works companies now can add characters to games right after they are finished. They are most likely working on this chars, while the game is already finished and being prepared for shipping. When you grow up and understand about money you will know why this works this way.

    • Kaihedgie

Midway actually took out a character that was basically completed early in the beta stages of MK4.

      • http://thespellcraftcolumn.wordpress.com Rudolph Consuegra

All for there not being enough new characters I might add.

        • Kaihedgie

A fan favorite hidden character that remained hidden all the way till Armageddon. That’s sad :V

    • $35897352

This generation? You think because you’re are an old dinosaur you are better? Please, we all know they finished these supposed DLC already and they are just wwaiting few months to release them and then get some bucks from your pockets. Making profits they call it.

      • Joel

No, is because I have perspective. I have seen this business evolve and have seen where this comes from. Take a moment to think what your statement entails. “They have finished this content already”. Do you think this is a smart business move? And I’m not talking about consumers being angry. I’m talking about time and money. If what you say is true then the game that we are buying was finished a while back, and they kept it under wraps in order to finish then extra characters before releasing it. Do you think that’s what companies want? They want to make as much money as possible as fast as possible. They even rush games that shouldn’t be released because of this. Do you really believe they will wait until they develop content that isn’t supposed to be released yet?

    • KubikiriTurkojin

the reason you state is the very reason fighting games were reduced to shit tier in gaming status and werent care for except by some of the most hardcore. what the fuck happened to waiting to release a game till its FULLY finished. there is no reason to make the same game 3 times and sell it again and again with minor additions other than to fuck over the consumer base. this way you have buy the same damn game 3 times in a year and have the first 2 games be for nothing because they are already outdated and nobody plays that outdated game anymore.

so whats next, publishers selling rpg’s where you have to buy the end of the game as it wasnt finished and this way they can make more through dlc. or going the cashcum route and releasing a game with the real ending not even in the game unless you buy the dlc.

you are not looking at it as a consumer, consumers want something worthy for their money, you just like getting fucked, not everybody is like you,.

      • Joel

Like I said, game content always have been dropped. Back in they day you could read developers interviews and they were always complaining about how much content they wanted to add and didn’t have time for it. Fighting games and everything else. There were stages, characters, features, etc that time didn’t allowed them to develop and this was a long time before internet was even widespread. And this isn’t just a video game problem. In software development there is a concept call a “Feature Freeze”, this is the day when nothing new gets added. You are buying a fully developed game, the fact that they want to add content afterwards doesn’t mean they didn’t finished the game. If you wanna see what happens when a company keeps adding every idea they have while development take a look at Duke Nukem Forever.

    • GothicGuido

You got some good points, but some companies take it to the extreme. That’s why gamer’s are p.od. I’m not saying this deal in particular is a rip off but something like Street fighter x Tekken certainly is. Charged for 12 characters that were already on the disc, there is no way that’s reasonable. If anyone would like to defend it, feel free (Not being a dick I would honesty be impressed if someone could defend it)

  • http://twitter.com/ace_crusher ace_crusher

A Season Pass for a fighting games doesn’t make sense to me. Unless the 4 additional characters are released at the same time, which, according to this article, they will not. I don’t know, the idea is weird to me, maybe because it just hasn’t been done like that before (correct me if I’m wrong). Maybe there will be more add-ons other than the 4 characters and one skin pack?

  • BUYACUSHUN

people realize that the dlc will be out and the season pass will still be purchasable right
? Oh and ALL DLC IS PLANNED.

  • Sentsuizan

I’m all for cosmetics like skins being DLC. But things that change the balance of a game, like characters, etc., should not.

    • windsagio

As long as they’re not doing cash for power, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.

If they’re selling ‘superawesomesilveragesupermanwhocansneezeoutgalaxies’ that’s different than if they’re just selling different characters… which they will intentionally try to balance.

  • Ty Arnold

If they only started adding the DLC later, say a few months after the game’s release, people would likely have already forgotten about the game by that point, outside of a dedicated fanbase. Like it or not, this is the most efficient way to go about it.

    • $35897352

Wrong. people don’t “forget” their games after “few” months”. From where you get this idea?

      • windsagio

most of the customers have quit playing fairly quickly usually, especially if there’s nothing new to pique their interest. You may not like it, but it’s reality.

Quick DLC both puts the extra content out there quickly when people are most likely to buy it, *and* keeps the game somewhat fresher for folks.

  • Ace

I remember the good ‘ole days when you unlocked new characters by just playing the game. =P

    • Amadeus Alexander

Money says there will be at least 2 unlockable characters.

    • Kaihedgie

Mortal Kombat, UMVC3, Blazblue, and Soulcalibur V would like to have a word with you

      • martin rush

“good ole days” those games are arguable new.

        • Kaihedgie

I also happen to recall in the “good ole days” that people whined that they weren’t playable right away and that we had do something to make them available, that they didn’t want to work to and be forced to play as characters they weren’t interested in and/or didn’t like just to get to the reason they’re playing the game in the first place.

I remember the days when people whined about Goku’s higher Super Saiyan forms not been playable on the outside in the Budokai games or Trunks’s hair-down style not being playable. I remember people whining about characters being taken out in the N64 version of Trilogy and making two of the boss characters hidden playables instead of available on the outset. Hell, finding out how to unlock the darn characters in any game was just as much of a hassle as paying for them. To this day, some people still have not unlocked everything from the “good ole days”. Some people just can’t do it, no matter how hard they tried.

    • Emezie Okorafor

I remember the good old days when fighting games had 8 characters, and if you wanted more you paid 60 bucks for the next game.

Today, games come defualt with 40+ characters for the same $60 price tag that SF2 had 20 years ago.

Even a fricking Snickers bar today costs more than it did 20 years ago.

Video games cost WAY more today to create than they did in the “good old days”. If you want to keep the $60 price tag, then you better be willing to put up with DLC.
