God damn thats a lot of Japanese players and ones that don’t usually travel. Shame there isn’t a singles tourney but I guess 3v3 is the tournament standard in Japan.

  • Pedro

Why no PR Rog or other top US players? : (

  • Eric Nguyen

    Wasn’t Chris G there?

  • KubikiriTurkojin

damn, 2 kuwait dollars is worth more than 7 us dollars.

  • Johnson Nguyen

Holy shit. Zhi swept that Kuwait vs International exhibition.

  • NDLT

  • R Skse

    Dragonball Zhi

  • AFMBari

I’m watching Day 1 of this…and what’s with everyone picking training stage?

    • Hey_Sim

Less lag. I know it’s offline but still. Everybody wants to be competing in the best conditions.

      • Guess that makes sense.  If there’s less activity going on, then there’s less work for the CPU.

  • bavobbr

Damn Team format and Mago going first. Daigo will go home a few grand richer without touching a stick

    • Edmund Heng

He will go home and touch his own stick.

    • JlHADJOE

He did. He lost to an Ibuki player.

  • Dat intermission music.

  • Art Salmons

    Watch out for terrorists.

  • RAEN74

Mago with the UMVC play?! bawaaaa?

  • AFMBari

Heartbreaking how lack of match up knowledge against Juri caused that 10-4 loss for Kuwait.

It was going pretty back and forth before that happened, I wanted to see what Osama could do.

    • Johnson Nguyen

If I recall correctly, a team of NEO, Infiltration, and Laugh (Team Corea?) fought against Alex Valle, Sako, and someone else notable (Team RTSD), and they all lost to NEO’s Juri. That was Revelations 2010 or 2011.

  • Man, that Japanese Ken Player was so strong. He really had an excellent grasp of the character. His unblockable set up in the corner fucked up Ryan and Justin.

    • bavobbr

Together with Okkun (Ibuki) he was the surprise of the tournament. Liked Aziz with Cammy as well, landed a lot of ultra’s in smart ways

  • BoozerX

    HABIBI !!!

    • bavobbr

ye, that word will stick around for a while

    • Guest

I had to look it up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habibi I can dig it

  • Austin Davoren

2000 of their dollars is 7000 of ours?

    God damn their economy.

    • Johnson Nguyen

I didn’t realise Kuwait was that rich either.

Street Fighter: teaching me about World Economics.

    • You have to remember that worth doesn’t mean much.

For example, China keeps its currency useless so it can cheaply export stuff to other nations and reap a huge profit. It call comes down to monetary strategy.

      • maroonmaroon

      • maroonmaroon

How does a single case of (allegedly?) currency manipulation suddenly nullify the whole concept of currencies being an indication of countries economical situation?

Anyway, loved the SF team tournament format and the 70-100% back turned Baek combos O_o Plus a very friendly atmosphere throughout the stream, even when the local players lost there were still a lot of energy among the crowd, thumbs up for that.

        • It doesn’t I’m just saying that it can’t be the only indicator. For example, the Euro is worth more than the Dollar but the USA is in a much stronger economic condition than the EU.

          • maroonmaroon

And I’m not saying it’s the perfect instrument either 🙂 but regarding the Euro, since it’s the common currency of many different European countries, you have to look at the situation of several countries instead of just one. A powerhouse like Germany for example accounts for a significant chunk of the Euro members economy and (I’m assuming) is probably doing relatively fine in comparison to the US.

          •  Good point, Germany is doing very well compared to its neighbors and the USA.

        • ddddddddd ddddddddd

Because Kuwait pegs its currency so that it is like this?  This is currency manipulation of just a different type

          • maroonmaroon

My mistake, I actually meant how China is artificially devaluating its currency’s value.

and just now found a bunch of bookmarks I made last year about exchange rates… thank you srk, of all places.

    • ddddddddd ddddddddd

Kuwait’s currency is pegged.  So it’s not a reflection of their economy, it’s what they want their currency to be.

    • JlHADJOE

Ok. let’s think in terms of GDP per capita vs Currency conversion rate to US dollars

      3rd Singapore $59,710 per capita, 1 Singapore Dollar = 0.80 USD
6th United States $48,328 per capita
      11th Kuwait $41,701 per capita, 1 Kuwait Dinar = 3.54 USD
      22nd United Kingdom $36,522 per capita, 1 British Pound = 1.57 USD
The currency conversion rate means nothing.

  • ouroborus

shoutouts to magneto and dr. doom

Was there any sort of salty suite after hours play for this tourney? Would love to see more of that japanese Ken and Juri player.
