Bane and Lex Luthor Revealed in Injustice: Gods Among Us

The latest issue of Best Buy’s @GAMER magazine features a piece on NetherRealm Studios’ upcoming DC Comics fighter, Injustice: Gods Among Us, that includes a first look at two more villains who will be joining the game’s cast. Bane, one of Batman’s most fearsome adversaries, will fill the grappler role, using the venom that courses through his body as his signature ability. Superman’s arch-nemesis, on the other hand, is more of a gadget character and will utilize a variety of weaponry as well as a unique shielding skill to fight off the other members of the roster.

      Batman has some of the most recognizable characters, villains or otherwise. This is to be expected. Not that they shouldn’t try to branch out more, true, but…well..they have villains like Turtle Man for the Flash..would we REALLY need characters like turtle man just for the sake of some kind of diversity? I would hope not.

          Batman and Superman  have crossed over and intertwined so many times that he might as well be. Honestly if I had never heard of Lex in my life and someone told me he was from Batman I’d believe them.

      Probably essential for their plot line, as for if he will be interesting to play or not has yet to be seen.

    Bane was unexpected and I don’t like it. What does he do that Solomon Grundy doesn’t already do? Heck, what does he do as a character, without comparing to anybody? I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess “Heavy striker/grappler, slightly more mobile than Solomon Grundy maybe due to dash attacks, and his ability is injecting Venom, which makes him hit harder and probably move faster and maybe super armor.” Whoopdeedoo.

    The game’s already overloaded on Bat-characters, they could’ve at least gotten someone that isn’t just “Big McLargeHuge,” like Clayface or Poison Ivy or Mr. Freeze or Lady Shiva or, heck, get off-the-walls/obscure with it and go for Professor Pyg, Calender Man, Scarface & The Ventriloquist, get creative!

    Can’t help but think this is a DC call to continue Nolan momentum cashing-in.

    My jimmy’s are out to pasture and DC has come to rustle them.

      I’m not crazy about Bane, but that has nothing to do with gameplay.  Any character can emulate any style.  I just feel the roster is becoming blander with every Batman edition. That said, It always rubbed me the wrong way when people say “Character “X” shouldn’t be in the game because they’d have to play style “Y”.

      And by character “X”, I mean Mega Man X.  Suck it till you choke, Capcom.

         I’m not against more “big guy/heavy hitters,” but the reason Bane’s character is interesting is because he mixes an intelligent, tactical mind with the incredible brute strength. I simply don’t count on NRS to do anything interesting with him.

        Maybe I’ll be wrong, though, Solomon does pull out tombstones and the knives in his back.

         Exactly! Think how much opportunity such an unorthodox character provides to get creative with mechanics, for both the devs and the player.

        Instead, we have Bane, and he’s already been confirmed to be a grappler-type.

        Granted, maybe they’ll pull out something itneresting for how he’ll pull that off, but the question remains as to why he’s that type when Grundy is already that type.

    I love Batman…but the love of god, this is supposed to be a DC Universe game, not Batman and Friends. No Aquaman, Etrigan the Demon, Orion, Booster Gold, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Hawkman, Barda, Power Girl, Captain Cold, Cheetah, Gorilla Grodd, Sinestro, Star Fire, Red Tornado, or Martian Manhunter as possible characters to make up a rich roster and the DCU?   The devs couldn’t actually come up with some diversity for an entire comic universe?  Oh…so…pathetic.

    But whatever. We all know 80% of people will play Batman and only Batman because he has the biggest bandwagon.

          Seriously, Booster is lame, but most of the others you mentioned I agree with. If Etrigan and Swamp Thing aren’t in this I’ll cry. Also, Zatana could be awesome. And hot.

       No, this is a fighting game; people will play Batman and Batman only until some character is proven to be broken or better than the rest (Hopefully one that everybody was against being in the game) then play that character for the rest of time.

    The problem is you non-fans are just assuming “half the cast is from batman! wah!!!” But if you read the comics,  Nightwing, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn are all part of their own series that is Batman-free.  Grundy’s origins are from a batman arc, but he’s more of a generic DC villain.

    Luthor is Superman’s greatest enemy.  You can’t have this game without Luthor in it. 
    That character design of Bane is an obvious nod to those awful Nolan movies. I really hope he doesn’t have dumb retarded voice.

      Nightwing, Harley, and Catwoman are still part of the Batman world.  There is no denying it because it is true.  I read the comics and know each one has their own comic now in the DC 52, but they are all part of the Batman world.  Just like Jason Todd is Red Hood and in his own comic, but he is part of the Batman world regardless.

      Nightwing and Harley are arguably the ones that can be done away with.  A part of me doesn’t mind Catwoman considering her rich history with Batman as an on/off again rouge /partner/lover.  I get her.  Either Bane or Grundy could fill the slot for “big, tall, grappler”. I wouldn’t mind one or the other, but not both.

      Luthor deserves his slot, IMO.  It’s Luthor!  Superman’s greatest enemy!

       If you’re referring to the cover pic of the Youtube Video, that’s not Bane from Injustice.  That’s just some random render JaeRoar used.  The magazine scans show the actual in-game design, and it looks much closer to the comic version.

      Yea they are still “Batman characters” its not even THAT much of an issue that 1/4 of the cast comes from Gotham City (well not directly)…its more like you have the Green Light from DC to choose from thousands of characters with a wide variety of powers, yet you sandbox yourself with most of the cast being Melee/Superstrong/Weapons. Out of the whole cast (so far) only GL and (to *some extent) Flash dont fit those generic categories.

      Seems to me theyre intimidated by actually having to use creativity to get more energy/magic/power type character integrated into the game. Pretty sad imo, ive loved MK since the first, loved DC since like..Captain Atom #1 (1980 somethin lol) which is why while the game is looking decent, its also looking like a missed opportunity to be so much more.

      Grundy was original a Green Lantern villain, he first fought Alan Scott during the Golden Age Green Lantern series.  He later branched off into the batman and superman story arcs as villain, mainly superman comics.  With the new reboot of DC in 52 he is back as the main villain of Earth 2 green lantern Alan Scott again.

    Admittedly, there are TONS of Batman characters that just beg to be put in a fighting game. Still, I’d like to see more Variety.

    Let’s get my girl Raven in! Then Starfire and Beastboy to round out the Titans. Brother Blood as a nemesis for them and Trigon as the Boss for the game!

    Red Lantern Laira and Sinestro would also be sick!

    Still psyched for Bane, though. While he is ANOTHER Batman family character… he’s got fighting game written all over him.

       I don’t even care that there are a lot of Batman characters, I just feel like they could have picked some better ones. If neither Poison Ivy nor Swamp Thing get in this game I’ll be pissed. Swampy being in is the only acceptable reason to not use Ivy.

    Yes it’s alot of Bat-characters but have ya’ll not seen the character select screen? We have around 10 slots left out of 24, plus there’s already gonna be DLC they have already stated that.

    I’m just hoping for some Titans, a yellow lantern or two (hell maybe even another spectrum as well), and some Aquaman to finish it up.

     This roster is very off-putting at this point. I expected a lot more variety of characters from all over the universe, but we’re only a few months away from the release date and half of the roster is Batman characters or characters that were in MKvsDCU already. It pains me to see Netherrealm playing it so safe with these characters. Announce some lesser known characters for god’s sake!

    I’ll tell you straight up, you know why there’s so much Batman in this game?  Because it’s Netherrealm and they couldn’t do bright and colorful characters if their collective dicks were burning in agony.  Even Superman looks depressing in this game.

    Oh get over it people. Bane is an iconic villain and just came out from a movie. Lex isn’t a Batman villain, he showed up in MKvDC and is Superman’s most known and well-written villain. Deathstroke also isn’t a Batman chatacter and shows up across the DC universe showing up against the Teen Titans and the Green Arrow. Also, Solomon Grundy isn’t a Batman villain you Arkham Asylum playing noobs, he’s a Green Lantern villain. Look it up.
