Skullgirls and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Available at Discounted Prices on PlayStation Network

The official PlayStation blog was recently updated with information regarding the latest group of games to be discounted as part of their PSN Holiday Essentials promotion. While there’s a ton to get excited over here, one title in particular definitely stands out for fighting game enthusiasts. Skullgirls, the indie fighter that recently received an extensive update, will be made available at the reduced price of $10.49. PlayStation Plus subscribers who have yet to grab the title will enjoy an even greater sale price of $7.35.

In addition, Sega has made Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown available at lower prices for all PlayStation Network users. From now until January 8th, you’ll be able to snag this title for only $9.99, or $6.99 if you happen to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber.

If you’ve yet to try out this pair of great fighters, definitely take advantage of these sales as soon as possible.

PS: Tragic that only one of the above games received a PC release this year…

VF for 9 dollars is more than a steal.  Game is brilliant.  It just takes about 4 months to actually be able to play it, if you are a novice.

    • http://twitter.com/MiGaOh Michael G. O’Hair

      Incorrect.

The best games, as has been said countless times, are “easy to learn, difficult to master”. Anyone can jump into fighting games and play, and possibly even find enjoyment in them, but beginners will lose more than they win. For some reason, novices can’t tolerate failure and therefore are reluctant to learn what is needed to win more than they lose.

Therein lies the problem: novices quit too early.

      • http://twitter.com/g13flat9th Mr. anon

VF is not easy to learn.  SF is easier to learn than VF.  VF is not even fun, until you actually know how to use your tools.  Put it like this, Basketball, Baseball, Football, Soccer are all fun even if you don’t know what you’re doing.  SF 4 lets you mash nonsense and feel satisfied.  VF doesn’t let you mash shit that won’t get you instantly killed. VF is like learning the piano. SF is like learning a few chords on the guitar. Learning a few chords on the piano sounds like garbage and you can’t play Mozart by doing it, but you can play songs just by learning some chords on the guitar in about ten minutes.

I paid full price for Skullgirls day 1 and it still was a steal

    • DukeMagus

hafta agree on that one… excellent game, content-packed and dirty cheap… wish i was better in these fast-paced FG

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=512147398 Alexis A. Rivera-Montalvo

WOW.  This is probably the best chance to get Skullgirls.  It’ll be the best $10/$7 you will spend on a fighting game.

I mean, for more than $10 you may get a pack of alternate costumes for a game.  Worth a try.

VF is also a great game and a steal at that price. Of course if you were a PS+ member a few months ago you got it for free. But still, it’s two excellent fighting games for less than a third of the price of a fighting game.

    • Johnson Nguyen

Even still, I was debating if I should get Skullgirls on my PS3 or PC; PSN, or Steam?
      *No PC release yet*
…Looks like I will bite the bullet.

      • DukeMagus

buy on both… 30 bucks at most, and the game is well worth it

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=512147398 Alexis A. Rivera-Montalvo

Ideally you want to get it on 360 and either PC or PS3 since there is planned cross platform compatibility between PC and PS3.

That way you get to play the entire community.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5FLRQI2X2LU3IHMCG7HEAEFD5I Cat Astrophy

Actually those on 360 should migrate to PC or PS3 so they can play the entire community. Supporting Microsoft only shows approval for their patch problems.

still waiting PC version with cross plat to play it

    • jinsaotomex4

You’re going to be waiting a VERY long time to get Skullgirls with PS3 cross-platform play…
The world will probably end before that happens.

      • petran79

till then PS3 online support will cease anyway and switch to next Sony console

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

It will be a VERY long time before PS3 online support cease well after the next console

  • Snow Loss

Still patiently waiting for Microsoft to ok the patch for SG.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=512147398 Alexis A. Rivera-Montalvo

      The wait is pretty painful.

If it helps, the wait will be worth it.

    • http://whatistheexcel.com/ Excel-2013

You may as well wait for the next rapture scheduled for May 13, 2013. It ain’t happening in our lifetimes. And in retrospect, maybe the developer is right to abandon it.
