Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 – You Are an Idiot #1: How to Punish Zero’s Buster x Lighting (NSFW)

HonzoGonzo has just posted the first episode of his new Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 video series. Called “You Are An Idiot,” the series is dedicated to showing players things that, in Honzo’s own words “you should already know but don’t because you are dumb.” This first installment focuses on showing players how to counter Zero’s jump Buster into lighting setup. The easiest way to counter this is to simply launch, however Honzo shows alternative options for each character in the video below. Be warned though, Honzo drops a couple of f-bombs in the video, so it is a bit not safe for work.

    Hey Honzo, Im an online Marvel player and an SRK 09′er  and man let me tell you Zero is so fucking cheap and overpowered, of course I’ve never even taken more than 2 minutes to sit in the lab and try and find a way to expose his weakness, so thanks for doing it for me, I’ll be sure to watch the video and will be sure to utilize none of it and still bitch about the character while I play a fair team of Vergil, Dante, Doom.

    Make me laugh. Any Zero player doesn’t do this anymore. I am a Zero player, I don’t use this tech anymore unless the buster hit my opponent. And the only player I have seen using Buster into lightening on block is Marn. Don’t be stupid, observe some Zero players and you will see that you’re learning an useless tech. 

    Let me give the best way to punish Zero, his jump H. His jH is good when you are close to him but when you a bit far, you can just counter it since it cannot cancel it on whiff. Even on hit, only jS can cancel it. That very good jump attack is his weakest point. It is not easy but if you have 100% to punish him unless he X factor.

    There is usually a lightning cancelled into buster before the second to make your approach safe or somewhat safe through the initial five hits of block stun or did everyone forget that? So the video should show a way to punish lightning buster lightning or an I wrong?

      Im sure you cant punish a lightning buster lightning combination due to the fact that the combined guardstun of the first lightning and buster would keep you from moving until zero uses his second lightning. You could possibly try to do a hit confirm from the air but its not guarranteed since Zero’s level 3 buster activates almost instantly. Zero players use their lightning buster cancel from a safe distance, which also makes this punish ineffective. So yeah, Zero’s pretty much the safest character in the game.

    Like FGCLove said, the only people this is going to expose are online scrubs and Marn because this is day 1 shit. Every Zero worth his salt would be doing LightningxxBusterxxLightning/L Command Dash.

    no Zero worth a damn is just going to do a simple buster -> lighting while you’re crouching on the ground like that.

    if you’re staying on the ground waiting for something, Zero will call his assist as he teleports behind you.  and if you block that, he still has control.

    if you’re jumping around, THAT’s when Zero players do M Lightning -> buster -> L Lightning

    Aww…I’ve been playing zero since vanilla, and am well aware of how unsafe lightning can be, but it wasn’t really common knowledge, so you could get away with it often, now everyone knows it’s easily punished. Although, I can’t really complain, the use of lightning by itself should only be used in safe situations such as incoming character mixups and ass-covering assists. If you’re using lightning to pressure, you should always release the buster after you input the lightning motion so Zero doesn’t slide into the other players face after he blocks the buster and is free to boot your ass outta the air.

    To all the people complaining that this is “old news,” that’s exactly the point of Honzo’s new video series. He’s showing stuff that folks should know (and is therefore “old news”) but that people aren’t really using enough of.
