Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is Out! Here’s Your Handy Survival Guide

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale has officially released for PS3 and PS Vita!  I know a lot of you have been grinding away at the beta for some time now, but here’s a quick survival guide for those of you who what to join in on the party.

Tip #1:  Buy the PS3 version to get the Vita version free

Yup, when you buy the PS3 version of the game, you’ll get a code to download the PS Vita version for free.  This one is a no-brainer.

Tip #2:  Check out our PSAS wiki for move lists and properties

Our PSAS wiki is available now.  Right now we have basic moves list and move special properties, but over the next few weeks the wiki will be beefed up with additional system information and competitive tips.

Tip #3:  Watch for Upcoming Tournaments

Now that the game is officially out, we should start to see it get picked up by tournament organizations around the world.  Level Up has already announced that they will add PSAS to their weekly tournament lineup.

Tip #4:  Play and Share!

The best way to show your support for this game just to play it, and share what you learn with your fellow players.  Post YouTube videos.  Tell your local tournament organizer that you want to see tournaments, or organize your own!  Stay away from the internet drama and just play the games you love.

I heard this game comes with a $25 gift certificate to baby GAP and a bottle of warm milk.

Oh shit, a game from an alternative genre. Let’s all put on our grumpy faces and protest!

      • OtokoKhan

If PASBR is “a game from an alternative genre” then why is SRK covering it?!

           money?

Thank god there is someone else who knows the FGC is retarded.

    • CptPokerface

You sure that wasn’t from your Baby GAP catalog?

  • KKFulcrum

Those combos are actually pretty cool

    • http://www.facebook.com/eric.scalgione Eric Scalgione

The game is really cool. I own it trust me the hate surrounding it is completely illegitimate.

      Facts:

      1. This game is great.
      2. Combos are fun and cannot be done by just mashing the controls.
      3. 99% of what people say about the game is based off nothing, no one who actually owns it says anything negative about it.
      4. The beta is not at all a way to judge this game, it is completely different from the beta.
      5. Not sure how competitive it will be, or if it belongs at tourneys, but this game deserves support.
      6. NOTHING LIKE SSB. sorry it just isn’t.

      • http://www.facebook.com/10stars Robert Brejcak

        own the game.
Combos are indeed somewhat timing based.
        The game is horrifically unbalanced.
It’s exactly like SSB, sorry it just is kid.
It does not belong at tournaments. It deserves support though.

How can you say its “nothing like SSB”? I agree with most of what you said, but to sit there and say PSAS isnt a copycat of SSB is just an asinine attempt to over-complicate things and try to make yourself sound like you have some deep rooted understanding of the cosmos that nobody else does.. which you dont. If by your comment you are speaking of the cast of characters, their moves, and the stages themselves you would be correct. But the game mechanics and play style are nearly identical. As with any new game there are differences and this game (being both new, and on a completely different system that isnt even in competition with Nintendo) is no different.

FUCK I’m trying to resist the urge to buy it cuz I really need to focus on work right now but its hard…. HNNNNNNNN!!!!

    • MuhhPhukka

      I feel your pain broseph.

This game looks more interesting every time I see it.

Um… How do you expect us to share stuff on YouTube if we don’t have the devices to record the gameplay?

I’m actually impressed how well this game performs as a 2v2. It’s a very enjoyable game that should cater to everyone.

  • http://E-mpire.com/ Omnistalgic

screw the haters…game is crazy fun…

more characters we all love like Ico/Snake/Cloud, and I’ll likely be playing it for 2-3 years…

solid fundamentals, and not a rip-off of Smash, good job SuperBot!

    • http://www.facebook.com/eric.scalgione Eric Scalgione

Wow…. I am so surprised by all the positive comments. Eventhubs literally just has troll after troll completely dissing the game without any good reasoning. The FGC in general is just piggy backing each other and sadly they are going to miss out on a great game.

So far the game is pretty fun, can’t complain.

  • d3v

I need to pick this up once I get some money.

i dont like how the characters float around in the air and its not very fluid.

  • http://twitter.com/SubparLobster Jordan Goodeye

Easily one of my favorite fighters. It is accessible, but it is by no means a baby game.

  • http://www.facebook.com/TatsuyaShioshi Darrell Seven

Wow, there’s way more positive feedback on here than I thought it’d be. Well then, I’m gonna chill back on the hate. I personally didn’t like this game but it’s clear it has a sizable group that enjoys it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/eric.scalgione Eric Scalgione

Go on eventhubs. There you will be able to hate with about 99% of the subscribers. I got tired of the hate and came here to see what people said. Completely opposite opinions from the sites.

  • http://www.facebook.com/eric.scalgione Eric Scalgione

“PlayStation All-Stars isn’t Smash Bros. I know that that’s been the popular line since All-Stars was officially revealed, but anyone who’s spent considerable time with both games – and I have – will identify almost instantaneously the deep-seated fallacy in that line of thinking.”
IGN, the king of trolling on franchises, gave this game a good review…

  • http://E-mpire.com/ Omnistalgic

Yeah, IGN actually reviewed the titled extremely fairly. Based on there written opinion, I would think the score would have been a 8.5 instead of an 8.0, but I really don’t have any gripes with it, and it reflects how I feel about the game 100%, Presentation/modes/characters could all use that first party AAA beefing up, but the core game is solid, and really different from Smash, and surprisingly very technical. I like playing core games like Journey, Mario, or Pixel Junk titles anyway, so I would have likely scored the game a solid 9.0 or A- as I think gameplay is still King, I’m just glad enough people out there see Superbot’s efforts. Videos for strategies are starting to pop on youtube, sounds like a legit fighting games to me. If somethings is good, a community will get behind it, screw Event Hubs…

There were the ones calling SF4 broken because of Sagat -_-

  • http://twitter.com/CasshernTheGuy TDB|Casshern

Tried the full game last night, and I really could not get into it. People trying to say it doesn’t feel like smash are trying desperately to defend it (as with most Sony games and the Sony Defense Squad.) by saying it feels nothing like smash. As a long time smasher and a competitive melee player, It feels WAY too much like smash to me. No disrespect to the Superbot team and anyone from this community who backs this game, but it just does not feel like anything worth more than a few quick glances. I really did try to like it after playing for about 12 hours yesterday, but it just wasn’t for me. The characters I thought I’d like just didn’t sit with me well, and the ones I knew I didn’t like made an even worse taste in my mouth. Overall, it’s a good effort by Sony to break its way into the competitive fighting game scene, but it is only really for a few people: those who have spent their entire life with Sony IPs and can fully appreciate it.

And if you hate Crash Bandicoot.

    RIP Crash Bandicoot.

    • Johnson Nguyen

Insightful post. I’ve also played Smash 64/Melee semi-competitively and was interested in a fellow smasher’s opinion on PASBR.

  • iCrisIntel

i was semi pro in brawl and my skills semi transfer over here ( reading rolls, when to block / grab) and i love the game so far. characters who do bad in 1v1 are good in 2v2 everyone is extreamly balanced, the mid/high/top tiers all have the right tools. raiden right now is too good but eventually it will be overcome ( just like MK in brawl) this game is a way different feel than any other game even something stock based like smash. you have to adjust your thinking and then you will see the beauty in this complicated fun action fighter

  • http://www.facebook.com/10stars Robert Brejcak

lol “semi pro” like theres leagues for it.

  • Johnny Gibbs

lol @ this professional nerd with the cellphone picture for an avatar.  Game’s great.  Has some balance issues, but when you’ve seasoned vets from the FGC actually ON STAFF, nerfs for OP characters won’t be too far behind. Already got SweetTooth up to max level, now I’m working on Evil Cole.  His close up games sucks, but he’s great at distance.

Bottom line, the game is fun. It IS the Playstation’s version of Super Smash Bros. Period. SSB does so well on Nintendo that they decided to capitalize on the same idea for all of Sony’s exclusive characters. And they did a good job IMO. My only gripe is in how few characters there are, but looking at all the SF games out there I can only suspect that either DLC or some “super ultra arcade edition elite” horse sh*t is coming soon for it that adds more chars to the mix. Balance? Cant be done without months, if not years of testing and tuning. Its sure to come, just a matter of when. All in all I think its a solid game and worth trying out. Do I think it was worth the full $60 they charged for it? No… I think this should have came out with the $40 price tag that games like UMvC3 did. Just not enough game there to merit the same price as other titles. Id give the game a solid 8 rating. 7 if you look more heavily on the title being original, because it really is just SSB for the Sony generation.
