Dead or Alive 5 – DID 8 Grand Finals: EMP|Crack Mamba vs. MASTER

Dead or Alive in Dallas has always been one of the DOA community’s biggest tournaments and DID 8 (hosted by Absolute Battle 3) was no exception, thanks to the recent release of Dead or Alive 5. The folks at FreeStepDodge have uploaded the grand finals from DID 8′s singles tournament. In this set, Empire Arcadia’s Crack Mamba (formerly Black Mamba) uses the supposedly “low tier” Helena to face the MASTER himself, Manny Rodriguez, and his ever-deadly Hayabusa.

    They know how to do combos but from what I know of Hayabusa that guy doesn’t make use of up forward k and down forward k,k which are bread and butter moves. Helena can just mash, easy to stun when in that low stance.

      Up-Forward K can be slow escaped. And Down-forward K,K is unsafe i believe.

    I loved the fight, but you could just hear how salty rikudo was about losing to helena earlier in the tournament. It really made the commentary hard to listen to him whine. I am probably more disappointed in the other commentator though since he just sat there and agreed. DoA has never gotten a lot of hype from the community. But these finals actually were great, and to have that hype kind of taken away listening to a commentator cry that the game is broken is a bummer.

      it’s because her psuedo force tech is retarded. If you don’t tech she’ll force tech you instead and when you do tech she has so much advantage that a 9-frame kasumi jab can lose to her 11-frame poke. And the fact that in her BKO she can just mash Duck and it’ll duck mids and highs.

        First off BKO doesn’t even duck all mids anymore, its been severely nerfed. And secondly her force tech is not unique. Almost every character (if not every character) has at least one. The reason people haven’t been using it is because in order to put it at the end of their combos they have to trade some damage. Helena on the other hand has such AWFUL damage that her BEST combo (which roughly 60% what other characters do) ends in the force tech. If people didn’t want to do the 50-75% damage combos and would instead take the 25-30% damage combos that helena is stuck with. They too could abuse their own force techs. 

        The DoA community put Helena in her own tier of awful. This tournament comes along, One guy found out a new piece of GAMEWIDE tech and won. The same thing happens whenever new tech is found out.  Someone finds out something amazing like an unblockable set up. And dominates a single tournament. The next tournament the participating players have spent weeks if not months training against that very tactic or finding it for their own gameplans and the world moves on.

      Yes, I’m mad salty. That must be it. Or, it could be that you’re a stereotypical immature FGC’r that takes every situation and assumes someone is just salty over losing the day prior. And it could be that the tech actually is broken. You’ll probably never know as you don’t know me as a person, and you don’t play DOA as a competitive game. But it’s nice to hear you talking shit about a person you’ll never have to deal with and know nothing about. Big man, you.

    I never understood why people consider Helena low tier.   Is it because you actually have to learn her?  That is a tier requirement right? Ease of use? No sarcasm, honest question. On another note, I main Bayman, and I usually don’t have trouble with Helena.  Not smooth sailings of course, but Offensive Holds usually beat her.  Especially low OH’s.  Well, you win some you lose some right?

      It was because she lacked the tools that other characters lacked. “Guaranteed” damage. However, That was the probably the first two weeks of release. She still has the best crushes, stance, and mixup’s in the game. Now she has the ability to completely take away wake up kicks.

     I had to mute the video in order to watch it due to how salty and annoying that commentator was. To Rikudo or whatever that loser’s name is, before complaining that Helena is broken or has force tech, learn how to do holds. Helena is one of the easiest characters to do counters on consistently.

    This was the worst commentating since VSM|Hitoshura was verbally fellating VSMlMaster during the Mortal Kombat at NEC XII.

    As others have said, commentary is bringing me down. Matches are fun, but listening to the guy be salty, then they were just like “Lol the Hayabusa player’s gonna lose,” the whole time was just a damn downer.

    I don’t want to sound over exaggerative, but i seriously believe Rikudo killed the entire finals, if not the whole tourney. Hearing him cry and whine was the last thing DOA needs to help promote themselves. This was was, seemingly, the first majorly broadcasted tournament for DOA, and it had to go down terribly like this. I hope they don’t put his salty ass behind a mic again, unless they want to further ruin DOA’s low rep.

      Actually show up to a tournament and I might give a damn about a request to stop “crying and whining”. As it stands, broken tech is still broken and I called it for what it is. I’m not going to hype up some hella one sided garbage. We dealt with the exact same bullshit in 4 and I knew what it was the moment I saw it. I give straight commentary and explain exactly what’s going on. If you didn’t like what was going on, blame Helena. I’ll take no bullets for calling it how it is.
