When a new Ask Capcom thread popped up on their community forums inquiring about the backwards compatibility of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom on Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console, Senior Vice President Christian Svensson appeared with some bad news for fans of the niche fighting title.

Our rights with Tatsunoko have lapsed fairly recently (so we’re no longer allowed to sell the title physically or digitally). Unless Japan were to strike a new deal, I’d say the chances of this happening are slim.

While this bears the immediate ramification of stopping Capcom’s sale of the game both physically and digitally (though retailers can obviously still sell on-hand stock), it also puts a slight damper on any hopes of a sequel the title had. In any case, the game has been referred to as a success by Capcom in the past, so dismissing the possibility entirely would be more than a little hasty at this point.
