Iron Galaxy Studios Gives Update on Current Status of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition Patch

In June, Iron Galaxy Studios, developer of the Capcom’s Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition, announced plans for a title update to the game to address certain issues with the game based on player feedback. Today, the developer posted an update on their blog regarding the current fixes in work-in-progress patch. Fixes include improvements to the netcode and matchmaking which should bring it in line with features found in Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, another Iron Galaxy-developed title which has had favorable reception.

  • We were able to successfully address the Netcode complaints. The Netcode is identical to what’s in MvCO, which has received a great response thus far.
  • Replaced Ping colors with numbers (in milliseconds).
  • We added matchmaking filters for Region, Opponent Skill, and Ping. This works like MvCO, where they are managed from a separate screen for all online game modes.
  • Lobbies can be created to limit players to the same region you are in.
  • Fixed the 8-max lobby problem on PS3.
  • Added ability to “Mute All” on PS3. 360 players can handle this through the Guide.
  • Super Art gauges are now the correct length.
  • Fixed the color of Urien’s reflector for Player 2.
  • Fixed Ryu’s bag not flopping over correctly.
  • Added ability to turn off Challenges that appear on the side of the screen.
  • The Difficulty setting now affects Arcade Mode.
  • Fixed the visual glitch in Remy’s stage with Scan Lines on.
  • Added some graphics to indicate player color during mirror matches. We didn’t end up altering the character portraits, but instead put some colored lines next to it. This ended up looking better, and still achieves the goal of showing which player is what color(s).
  • Added “Disable Stun” to training options.
  • Defaulted Gill to “Banned” in Player Match.
  • The selection highlight remembers the last super you selected in multi-match modes. It doesn’t auto-pick it, the cursor just starts off on the last-selected super.
  • Rank should no longer get reset to 0.
  • Put Ready/Unready on separate controller buttons in lobby.
  • Fixed the Poison color being incorrect for Player 2.
  • Fixed some random locks/hangs.
  • Made some changes to how the leaderboards get updated on PS3.
  • YouTube uploads on 360 will be at 360p now.

Currently, Iron Galaxy is uncertain when work on the patch will be complete, or when the patch will actually go live.

thats wht i was saying when i first got this game, what a bunch of fucking retards. im just glad i didnt pay money for it ( lil cousins account on my ps3). also needed for a lot of crt tvs, the option to move the screen, not just adjust its size. these fuckers @ crapcum usa are fucking retards, why would you not use all the options that they had on the ps2 version of the game, its all there dumbasses.

      • Moribund Cadaver

Forgive them for realizing that in 2011 99% of people are actually going to be playing games on a television newer than 10 years.

You’re just bitching to bitch and say shit about Capcom or (insert company here idiots on the internet are supposed to bitch about). Didn’t even buy the game, and I doubt you ever would even if every one of your little particulars was polished to perfection.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/246DX6QDR6GADW6JQG4NZNUD24 Igloo

no one plays 3s on modern TVs, it plays best on CRT.  asking for a feature that was in the port they built this from is not ridiculous.

“television newer than 10 years” lol. most enthusiasts play this game on CRT.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Rad/100002370870363 Bob Rad

If you were an enthusiast then you would be playing only the arcade version – rather than playing a version designed to mimic the arcade version on a HD console.

          • John E.

Never thought I’d come across someone who has met every single 3S player in the world. That’s quite an achievement.

        • KubikiriTurkojin

youre just being really fucking stupid right now. how does it make sense to buy a game i can dl for free on one of the accounts i have on my ps3? seriously.

also i usually play the arcade version on an arcade cabinet, which is still the only really great way to play this game.

last but not least, i got a good samsung flatscreen with minimal lag. when i play at a friends house whos got this big shitty lag heavy flatscreen, we rather plug his 360 on the older crt so we can play lag free. problem with this is we cant get the picture in the right position because these fuck ups didnt include options in the game that a fucking 10 year older port did put in it. when they advertise arcade perfect and great to play on a crt, it should have the options to make it look like it should on a crt without having black borders on 1 side.

no 2p training mode is just really stupid. we cant do some of the things we want on the arcade cab, which this version could have fixed by giving us a legitimate training mode.

      • eunsun

I love seeing you randomly spaz out in the comments section on a regular basis. You need to take a chill pill, literally.

        • KubikiriTurkojin

if you love it so much, stop complaining and enjoy the show. bitching about it gets you nowhere. take a chill pill if youre bothered by it that fucking much.

          • eunsun

Why are you telling me to take a chill pill, when you’re the one with some clearly diagnosed mental disorders? Oh the irony is so sweet.

      • John E.

Except this is not a port of the PS2 code … glad to see you feel the need to complain about a game you didn’t even pay for, though … good job.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/246DX6QDR6GADW6JQG4NZNUD24 Igloo

Iron Galaxy confirmed that it was built from the PS2 code.  files from the PS2 version are in the OE data as well.  so that’s definitely incorrect.

    • http://twitter.com/hammermountain NTR|ghosties

they give you all that and you’re still asking for more. c’mon. it’d be great to have a 2 player training mode, but we can live without it. training in an actual match, under pressure, is much better than doing it in training mode anyway. infact, that’s how most people trained (including myself) when 3S was still in arcades. but, to be fair, i wouldn’t complain if they did add more stuff. ;-P

    • TempBast

Yo, I checked out the training mode on PS3, and it does have 2-player training.

  • Ciarán Plunkett

If these patches work, I might just give them money.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/tsdcs TS

lol, big list of updates, first comment is asking for another update.

    List looks good.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonathan-Tambalo/826209597 Jonathan Tambalo

don’t get me wrong, the list looks great but that’s one thing they should also consider in addition to this list

    • http://twitter.com/roknin Jelani-Akin

Sadly, I expected no less. :-p

“Fixed Ryu’s bag not flopping over correctly.”

    Finally.

    • JasinWalraven

nothing worse than a sac that flopps the wrong way ;)

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

yea that just breaks the game when the bag falls the wrong way just unplayable i refuse to play like this

Hahahahahaha some 3rds pads not works correctly and they give priority to this shit

  • Quan Chi

Instead of banning characters, why not just cut Gill’s overall attack power in half when played by a human……-_-*

    • Barry Hui

whats the fun in that? =P

    • akaisuisei

      Cuz that’s not 3S.

    • eunsun

That’s not how you balance characters.

      • http://www.facebook.com/marioquirozm Mario Quiroz

exactly, parrying and drop inputs online does.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Almeson-Hoku-James/100000479628267 Almeson Hoku James

No matter how much you nerf him, the power of the man thong will always be too stronk

      • Quan Chi

@google-8b6e54af677cdca166b3f8509062af60:disqus & eunsun: It kinda is how you balance characters. That’s what they basically did to Seth and ppl are still
beast with him. Elena has healing but she isn’t banned :P
Removing characters sure isn’t ‘how to balance’ ;)

        • Hector Garcia

That’s how capcom’s SF4 team tries to balance.

“Oh he’s great normals, damaging combos, and he’s owning more than half the cast? Lower his health, let’s go on paid vacations.”

Also, this is a 10 year old game. Let’s say it again for the folks at home, this is a 10 year old game. People still play it, and love it. Why decide to do something like nerf a character no one cares too much about in game this established is beyond any justification.

In other news, ARCADE SOUNDTRACK DLC FOR FREE PLEASE

        • John E.

I agree that a playable (as in competitively) Gill would be nice, but that’s a bit above and beyond what they set out to do with this port. Let’s just hope Gill returns in a future SF game in a balanced/tournament-legal form.

  • http://twitter.com/ThePhantomnaut Carlo Dela Cruz

    ARCADE SOUNDTRACK DLC.

    • NickLeake

      THIS THIS THIS

    • Moribund Cadaver

The difference between the non-arranged music and the CPS3 arrangement of the tracks is incredibly minor, to be honest. One realizes that people are absolutely fetishistic about ports like this, but it’s not a huge priority.

      • http://twitter.com/ThePhantomnaut Carlo Dela Cruz

Arrange soundtrack has a 3rd sequence while arcade soundtrack rewinds back to original. While the composition is very similar, the sound is different. It’s not as minor as you think. Sure it’s purist but Jazzy NYC arranged doesn’t sound as good as arcade, especially when you play arcade, emulator or PS2 or watch videos from Japan every day. Tell that to those who wanted Ryu’s bag fixed or reencode Shoryu sounds to not sound like a trash can. If it can be added, then go for it.

Someone uncovered that 3SOE’s game files include the arcade soundtrack in full so a patch is possible or at least a DLC unlocker.

  • COMMONSENS8

My hat goes off to Iron Galaxy for this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/DeadlyRaveNeo Rorick Deadlyraveneo Haynes

    ok………….fix jojos netcode

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

please somebody anybody who up for it

    • http://twitter.com/ThePhantomnaut Carlo Dela Cruz

Japan unfortunately doesn’t know how rollback netcode works.

      Just play it on GGPO.

  • Moribund Cadaver

People should should remember that this list of changes isn’t even finalized – there could be more updates as well depending on what they have time to fix or add.

Much credit is due however for not abandoning 3SO; some of the remaining issues, such as slight (very slight) difference in game speed may boil down to issues with their emulation strategy and may just be the way it is.

But with this patch, the game should be in very good shape.

    • http://twitter.com/ThePhantomnaut Carlo Dela Cruz

      Still needs arcade soundtrack.

  • http://www.facebook.com/trykentaralisu Ryan Tullis

How many large companies would go back and patch a 15 dollar game for the enthusiasts that play it? Not many. I really salute Capcom USA for the dedication to take what they fixed in creating MvC: Origins and putting it back into 3SOE. That’s awesome. And, those of us that are well-adjusted human beings really appreciate it. Thank you.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PXLAI352VUPEBETNWWTNE57XS4 Mihail Palov

Its not Capcom USA you should be thanking. Its Iron Galaxy that made this port and from
what I understand due to the 2 patch for free max thing on psn and xbl Iron Galaxy is paying for this one out of their own pockets. So good job to them, thanks for listening to the fans and keep up the good work.

      • http://www.facebook.com/trykentaralisu Ryan Tullis

I type corrected. Bravo to Iron Galaxy, then. As a Third Strike player, I really appreciate it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shawn-Wray-Ellington/100002142830286 Shawn Wray Ellington

Capcom’s giving this another go? Kickass, I hope more people play it. :)

  • ArmoredBoar

That’s cool and all, but what’s taking them so long to make System Direction an option for online player matches?
In all honesty that stuff made 3S less boring for me, since I already don’t take the game seriously as is. Would be fun for others to enjoy such a novelty online.

    • http://twitter.com/leakingpear Billy Fletcher

Yeah what’s with them not adding a thing no one requested that is a complete gimmick that no one will use for more than an hour or two????

      THESE DEVELOPERS THESE DAYS

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tyrone-McAllister/510677201 Tyrone McAllister

Their is one thing that bothers me about Iron Galaxies versions of both MVC:O and SF3S,it’s that the layout of both games is incredibly boring and the menu’s are slightly unfunctional. My bigger issue being the later, for example when your playing online and a match ends it takes you to a sub menu that manually selects save replay. When playing multiplayer I find most people just want to play ranked, and want to go between matches as fast as possible. And the menu’s should be more functionable in that regard.

As for the layouts does anyone else find them boring, stale grey and simple clean cut lines. Why can’t we get something more visually appealing, or custom backgrounds and layouts, keeping in flavour of the games themselves. Other than that both are great games and are very good ports IMO.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marioquirozm Mario Quiroz

I just hate the title enfatizes is ONLINE and the first option if you mash the button (salty losses) is: LAN GAME.

  • Gavin Heinly

Fix the 2P mode character select music.

  • NickLeake

3S:OE, HD Remix, and VF5: FS are all half off on XBL this week for Gold members. Just sharin’ the love for those who might wanna pick these titles up. Here’s the link for proof: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Promotion/dealoftheweek

  • Alex Johnson

Seriously… talk about a change that’s long overdue. It’s amazing how the game made it all the way through development, QA, and countless informal playtests and yet no one seemed to notice or care about so glaring an oversight as to render the game practically unplayable?? And they had the gall to call THIS monstrosity a “finished” product?! All I can say is “about time.”

It’s about GOD DAMN time because I was about to fucking LOSE IT.

Can you BELIEVE Ryu’s bag didn’t flop over properly?
