Tekken Tag Tournament 2 – Possible Bug Allows Kunimitsu to Crouch Under Certain Mid Attacks

A recently uploaded video by thegutsygeek reveals his discovery of a possible bug that could cause some problems in Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Apparently, Kunimitsu’s crouching hit box is so small that she is able to duck under a few mid attacks, completely negating their strength against her.

This video demonstrates a few of the mids that Kunimitsu can avoid, and a short list was also provided of others that have been confirmed. That list has been included below the video. If you play any of the characters listed, make sure to take note.

With so many characters and moves for each one of them is impossible to check all and get sure everything is perfect… but nothing to worry about, I’m sure in the first update this “issue” will be fixed

Yeah, and besides this game doesn’t have Capcom’s name on the box so glitches, like dicks, are okay.

His point is valid and you have dick on your breath. If this was a Capcom game the “I”m pissed off that no one plays the game I like because I am a hipster” crowd would be going apeshit “this game is broken and dead. How could they not play test this? let (insert capcom game here) die” oh, it’s not capcom, let it slide.

Screw that, lets join the hate band-wagon that hypocrites like Emezie have judged others for riding–because disliking games that he/she likes is unacceptable.

Screw TTT2 (Kappa) because it has bugs–just like SFxT which had infinites and game breaking glitches–this is unacceptable! I mean sure I could use a different mid to hit Kunimitsus from now on, because they’ll be blocking low a lot more but screw that! I’m not gonna do nothing. Namco better patch this soon, because I can’t play the game till they do. (Kappa)

Wow, I love the hate band-wagon lol.

          • NYC01301

Oh my goodness! Why is everyone so immature on this site?  Anyway, I think people have to realize that these console exclusive characters did not have the nearly 2 years of tournament play in arcades the regular roster had. A lot of work is put into the balance of Tekken. The game usually goes through nearly 2 years of exclusive arcade play before it hits the consoles. When you receive the console version, you are essentially receiving the near perfect version of this game. Unfortunately, these DLC characters did not have the opportunity to be fine tuned through arcade play like the rest of the cast. Also the hitboxes in Tekken are very intricate, with the exception of a few moves here and there. But usually that has to do with balancing  purposes :)

          • http://twitter.com/emezie Emezie Okorafor

“I think people have to realize that these console exclusive characters did not have the nearly 2 years of tournament play in arcades the regular roster had. ”

Oh, so that matters now?  I could name other recent fighting games that didn’t have the benefit of an arcade release AT ALL, but that didn’t stop people from being merciless with their criticism of glitches.

If TTT2 deserves a pass (a game that had at least some arcade exposure), then the other games deserved more of a pass…which they didn’t get.

Emezie, I don’t know what you are suffering from but SFxT isn’t “your” game. It is capcom’s game.

And capcom, in my book, is out of favors since the stuff with SFXT, so I will react on their errors much more than on the errors made by namco because they didn’t screw up as much.

Back on topic, I am surprised that they had this kind of flops, lets wait and see how fast they patch this problem.

          • Zonder88

How sad it is to see Emezie falling into the retard category similar to Kaihedgie.

          • Zonder88

Because you keep trying to white knight SFxT using these Tekken glitches as an excuse, when the reality is you’re too stupid to realize situational infinites and small hitboxes are not the same as game breaker/freezing bugs that SFxT had. I dont even like Tekken, but at least Im smart enough to understand the scale of glitches to know that this is harmless comapared to SFxT.

            Now piss off.

RIP TT2, just kidding, but i really hope this wasn’t intentional, i really don’t think its that big of game breaker atm, hope its just a bug that can be patched, but anyway im loving TT2 right now really fun and pretty much every character could be competitive we’ll see tho.

    • http://www.facebook.com/rob.kusanagi Rob Toohey

it’s easily fixable. all they really need to do is adjust her cr. hit box. that’s the problem with console characters, though. they don’t have the same amount of time in the “oven” as the others so to speak.

  • L Light

    • http://twitter.com/novriltataki Fighting Game News

That’s the equivalent of having a SF character that can magically walk through fireballs. This is a pretty fundamental problem, and should be fixed ASAP.

      • http://twitter.com/Shin_Hogosha Michael Connolly

You mean UNDER fireballs.  And that exists with the ultra broken character that is Twelve.

        • Louis Lam

lol if we’re talking 3rd strike twelve is terrible

        • http://twitter.com/emezie Emezie Okorafor

Twelve was DESIGNED to walk through fireballs.

Kunimitsu was NOT DESIGNED to duck under these mids.

Clearly this is a key difference.

          • xeleion

You sure about that?  Look again, it’s questionable.

        • http://twitter.com/novriltataki Fighting Game News

No I mean like a SF2 character, in a game were fireballs matter.

it would look pretty stupid for a shape shifter to make himself crawl on the ground and still get hit by fireballs

      • JasinWalraven

No d3v has a valid point, if left in people would either not throw out mids without thinking, or it would become part of the game to make the opponent think you are throwing out a mid to bait this out and punish. As long as it doesn’t freeze the game wait to see how it affects the meta game. Patches are expensive and I’d hate to see Namco waste money patching something out that may in fact make the game more fun….Plus in SSF4AE Juri can magicklly dash under many fireballs in the game, and in UmvC3 Deadpool can do the same, so there is precedent.

        • L Light

It’s also not all mids. Just some a few mids.  King still has many useful mids and so do the others.

        • http://twitter.com/emezie Emezie Okorafor

How the hell does this make the game more fun?

How does losing legit mids in a game where mid/low mixups are crucial make the game more fun?  Do you really think King players are excited about this?

“if left in people would either not throw out mids without thinking, or it would become part of the game to make the opponent think you are throwing out a mid to bait this out and punish.”

Umm, yeah, people already do this.  It’s called “Tekken”.

We don’t need glitches to make “Tekken” be more “Tekken”.

          • Garrett Jones

I think anyone who is reasonable would argue that this glitch should not be in the game, but that doesn’t mean this is anything like the SFxTekken glitches and that certainly doesn’t mean that TTT2 having this makes SFxT any more fun. Game-breaking glitches aside, most people agree that TTT2 is fun and SFxT isn’t. All the arguments for why people think that about Tekken and not SFxT have already been made.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/KFD623WBWJKHAW75XTB2ATXWMY Troy

Because certain SF characters don’t have moves that go though fireballs.

      • NYC01301

It really seems to only affect the characters listed. And it’s only those specific attacks. It’s not like she is able to dodge every single mid attack a character has. You could just use a lower hitting mid. I don’t believe things are that straight forward in Tekken. Plus it actually looks as if those attacks are supposed be dodged, it doesn’t look as if the limbs actually come in contact with her head. Xiaoyu and many other characters that rely on the crush system are able to evade certain mids. Xiaoyu’s phoenix stance can avoid certain mid attacks and Zafina’s tarantula stance avoids many mid attacks that don’t hit too low. I actually would not mind if they kept this in. But that is just my opinion.

        • http://twitter.com/emezie Emezie Okorafor

According to the video: “Here’s a short list of what we found after about 5 minutes of testing.”

There are probably more moves that this works against that haven’t been found yet.

          • NYC01301

And that would probably be high hitting mid attacks lol. It’s not like the limbs are actually going through her. They are going over her head. I wouldn’t say it’s a glitch, she just crouches much lower than any other character in the game. Therefore some mid attacks with higher hit ranges will just sail over her head. As you can clearly see, there is a big difference between Xiaoyu and Kunimitsu’s crouch. Kunimitsu is much lower to the ground than Xiaoyu. Half the people that are complaining about this don’t even own the game or have Kunimitsu for that matter.

          • ookamunka

Yeah, but it’s rather stupid having a move that hits people who crouch, oops, except this character.  That would be like Ryu’s low forward hitting low against everyone, except it acts as an overhead against Akuma or something equally as retarded.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/M4W3JYRDPLPJAUAIS76LEIAO64 Rock

How the hell is leaving this in a good idea? Someone immune to mids crouching:

      - Can’t be hit high
      - Can’t be thrown
      - Can’t be hit by mids
      - Blocks everything low

In other words get the first hit, hold down back, wait for time-out. Seems like a pretty fun game.

      • NYC01301

It’s not like she is dodging every single mid attack in the game lol. You can use lower hitting mid attacks and attacks that are going to directly hit her in the face. Everything isn’t that straight forward in Tekken. Not all mid attacks hit in the same range. The list shows you which mid attacks just sail over her head. You can even use xiaoyu’s phoenix stance to avoid certain mids, especially with her duck animation in that stance.

      • michael bradford

i agree this needs to be fixed asap
now thats said you do understand that so far not even close to all mids wiff on her right

      • http://twitter.com/GrapeATL Grape 포도 약탈품

This would make sense if she went under EVERY mid…but she doesn’t.

    • Zonder88

Dont know if you’re being sarcastic, but you do realize mid attacks are the ONLY way to hit a crouching opponent right? Because they block lows and high whiffs.

      • NYC01301

You can use lower hitting mid attacks and mid attacks with animations that won’t fly over her head. It’s not like the limbs are going straight through her lol. There are different hit ranges, so every mid attack is not going to hit in the same area. I don’t think people realize that she is not able to dodge every single mid attack in the game, just the ones listed with higher hitting ranges.

        • d3v

          This.

          • ookamunka

Consistency is the issue here.   As I mentioned before, it’s like Ryu’s low forward hits low on everyone, but it’s an overhead against Akuma.  In the general ruleset of Tekken mechanics, mids hit crouching opponents.  All of a sudden now, my mid move is a high against this character only?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1209867418 Neniv Bazi

Even if they did decide to fix this immediately, we wouldn’t see the patch for at least another 2 or 3 weeks due to the stupid approval process it would need to go through. Quite a pre-order bonus.

  • http://www.twitter.com/tyler2k1/ tyler2k

This is incredible because it looks like her hurt box is actually 1:1 for her character model. Notice how when she’s crouching Kuni is naturally leaning backward, but when Xiaoyu is crouching, she is leaning forward. Bruce hit box for d/f+2 is notoriously small, so small hit box + Kuni naturally leaning back = win for kuni.

Easy fix would probably be to move Kuni’s hurt bux upward, although not 1:1, it would be easier than completely changing her crouching model/skelly.

    BUT WAIT, A CHALLENGER APPEARS!!!

Because her hurt box is sooo tiny, this probably means that talls (and possibly some non-talls) may be able to cross her up from standing, so you get a free unblockable every time you notice her in a neutral position. Get that +6/7 on her, free unblockable. Rinse, repeat.

    • Causus

This! This is how the FGC should react to news like this. Crouching mids? Fuck complaining, turn that shit into a cross up setup. Like a boss.

       TO THE LAB

  • http://www.facebook.com/Hellacious1789 Ryan Boyle

Considering that she was Gamestop Exclusive DLC and the actual character hasn’t been released yet.  Couldn’t Namco just include that with the Character Unlock for free when everyone gets her?  And for those that currently have her from the Gamestop Exclusive DLC, just have to redownload her as a character and that will override the original Pre-Order Pack DLC hence patching the bug.  That is already planned and in the budget so I don’t forsee how that couldn’t be implemented.

    • spectaa

Everyone get the title update (online), if you don’t patch your game you can’t go online. So every kunimitsu will be the same whether you had it as preorder bonus or not, as long as you let the title update patch your game. No need for re-downloading anything. The problem is that validation takes time. And it’s barely a problem in this case, this isn’t exactly game breaking.

  • Ian Donmoyer

Oh, NOW we’re calling out strange hitboxes in Tekken.  I’ve been watching a giant bear duck under shit in this franchise for more than a decade.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Enzo-Nicosia/100000320074812 Enzo Nicosia

lol thank you, its about time someone brought that up.

    • spectaa

I’d say the problem is actually that the hitbox isn’t strange.

  • RaidenNC

This isn’t game breaking.  The average character in this game has about 100 moves. Many of the mids have lower hitboxes. King has f+3:1+2, df+1,2, df+2, and uf+4. Bruce has b,f+4 (safe, beefy, mid launcher), b+2, and df+1. This really isn’t that big a deal even if they don’t patch it, though I assume they will. It is more like the equivalent of juri dashing through fireballs than anything else.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/KI6R3RMEZC7K3RCO6SBB3CYJPI Lal

It is kinda game breakinf because then it is like MK9 where high/mid/low is badly defined. For a game like tekken where mid means that it will always hit ducking characters (except special stances like ling’s).

  • http://twitter.com/MortalKomment MortalKomment

This is just Namco’s way of making up for Kunimitus being low-tier in the original Tekken Tag.  It’s fine.

Honestly I think it’s a fair thing for kunimitsu, considering she’s one of the shortest, if not the shortest standing neutral character in the game, combine that with mids that while hitting mid, hit slightly different heights.. its rather balanced.

Wan’t to talk about hit boxes, why does Angel’s uf 1+2 go though a standing Jinpachi’s head instead blasting him in the face?

    • Translayer

Because it is a move that only hits characters that are already in the air. This also applies in Tekken 6 when you are fighting Azasel, & using Devil Jin’s u/f+1+2 to hit Azasel in standing neutral state.

A bug in a non-Capcom game? Who cares? Obviously every other fighting game maker is flawless, so shut your trap SRK. DID CAPCOM PAY YOU TO FIND THIS BUG?!

  • Kaihedgie

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. People rage their spines off about glitches popping up in one game made by a certain company, but stay civil and quiet when another game by another company does it….on the principle that money isn’t involved?

No no, it gets better, when someone points out the sheer hypocrisy that’s being displayed; rather than acknowledge it, let alone apologize, they proceed to gang up on that person, call them names, bash the heck out of them and false flag him. And while they’re at it, attempt to call out other people, too. And they get likes for it. And the comment pointing all this out gets flagged as spam.

SRK, I think it’s about time you look for mods to start moderating the Disqus threads from now on because as of now, SRK isn’t exactly painting a positive picture for its community if this is the kind of comments they see on the front page.

    • http://twitter.com/gogotwit Gojira Twit

Who is this hypocrite you and this other “someone” speak of?  Or are you guys just waving your arms around like a lunatic and hoping someone thinks you’re pointing at them?

Community blanket statements are fun but if you have to use “people” in every other statement it’s pretty clear you’re just projecting your hate onto nobody in particular.

      • Kaihedgie

Since you asked, the hypocrites being the ones flagging and bashing on Emezie. The other someone is usually other people agreeing with him, but it’s me in particular that’s been pointed out this time. I never really use names in particular since 1: I’d assume people would know who I’m talking to, and 2: I usually don’t zero in and single out people, as far as SRK goes, since two users in particular seem to be fond of that.

        • http://www.facebook.com/illness690 John Taylor

Wow, this is actually way more broken than the A.Ogre infinite. I’m sure this will be patched. No way they wanted a random neutal crouching character immuned to some mids. It’s just like Guy being grabbed while in crouching hit stun. They wouldn’t give a blatent advantage like that to one character. It’s just the typical console character bugs.

  • Otis Brogdon Jr.

LOL when he does the European uppercut it goes through her face and also the reason why they don’t connect isn’t because they are ducking. IT is because of her stance when attacks is being slightly pushed back, but with Xaioyu her stance has no effect and he kicks and punches through it.

Just watch the video again and you will see what I am saying. In essence it isn’t her low ducking it is the fact that her model keeps him from connecting and makes him whiff.
